Takes roughly 2 hours, I guess. And no, I don't trace. The closest I did to tracing was an early pic of EMCE in this thread, where I drew contour lines over the original pic, then erased everything else. For these, I post the image into MSPaint in a big blank window, then draw what you see beside the original image (mostly using the line tool).
