it probably won't be a big deal, but there'll be more to work out.
Walker, Alberts, Ward and Kostopoulos have all had disagreements with each other at some point haven't they? (At least one with another in the group I mean... that would be pretty funny if each guy had fought all the other guys) 7/24/2009 11:46:37 AM |

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Aaron Ward is headed back to the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes reacquired the rugged defenceman from the Boston Bruins on Friday for forward Patrick Eaves and a fourth-round draft pick next year. 7/24/2009 1:26:44 PM |

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news;_ylt=Ahc7bUOIlp61QiqUbt6TXWh7vLYF?slug=ap-bruins-hurricanestrade&prov=ap&type=lgns
On Walker:
Quote : | "“Tell him I still have practice—I’ll get him back at practice,” Ward said with a smile. “It’s water under the bridge. I’m on his team now. … There’s a lot of emotion in the playoffs, both in the media and playing the game. … I’ll see Scott Walker when he comes in, shake his hand, tell him how grateful I am to be here, how excited I am to play with him, and it’ll be past.”" |
Quote : | "Ward said Chiarelli called to notify him of the trade while he was playing golf at a Raleigh-area country club with two members of Kid Rock’s band.
Ward said Cole sent him a text message that said, “We’re getting the band back together.”" |
Quote : | "“With this trade, our defense really takes shape,” Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford said. “We envision him complementing Joni Pitkanen(notes) well as a defensive pairing.”" |

http://blogs.newsobserver.com/canes/rutherford-seidenberg-babchuk-out
JR confirms what we already knew:
Quote : | "Rutherford said that defenseman Anton Babchuk, who wanted more than the $1 million the Canes offered him this year (he is a restricted free agent with no arbitration rights), will not be back with the team.
“We’ve moved on from him,” said Rutherford. “He’s either going to get traded or I guess his other option is to play in Russia.”
Rutherford also said defenseman Frank Kaberle’s contract will be bought out next week. He’s owed $2.2 million this year, but the Hurricanes can buy him out for two-thirds of that salary and split the payments over the next two seasons." |

Rod Brind'Amour will be playing on the third line, or the fourth if he is bad again. I would hardly say our season hinges very much on his performance, although it would be huge if he had a renaissance. 7/25/2009 1:43:14 PM |

LaRose said he was working out with Brindy this summer, and that it was pretty intense. Plus he doesn't have a wife to worry about now, which will probably result in more time at the gym

So who thinks we are in the market for one more signing? By the looks of it Sutter is going to (hopefully) spend as much time as possible in the AHL. I wouldn't be surprised if we spend $1.5 million or so on a good 4th line center who can kill some penalties. Some speculation about that over at HF Boards. One guy mentioned Mike Peca, who I have coveted for sometime.
Imagine a lineup of this:
Ruutu - Staal - Cole Whitney - Cullen - LaRose Samsonov - Brind'Amour - Jokinen Kostopoulus - Peca - Walker Conboy
Pitkanen - Ward Corvo - Gleason Alberts - Carson Wallin
Ward Leighton
That could be had for about $51.75 million in actual spending, with a $55.75 million cap hit (still leaving some flexibility). 7/25/2009 5:09:32 PM |

I've never been a huge fan of Peca, i'd much rather go with Sutter. Higher ceiling and more affordable. 7/25/2009 5:21:53 PM |

I think it would be a bad idea to rush Sutter. Would love for him to have a year in the AHL with Boychuk, Bowman, etc. He still isn't that big, either. 7/25/2009 5:48:10 PM |

We're going to be much tougher to play against this year. What I hope happens on D this year is that since we have big strong guys (Ward, Gleason, Alberts) that the more offensive minded Pitkanen and Corvo can push the tempo more knowing they've got someone more reliable than Babs or Kaberle (when he wasn't in the press box) backing them up. 7/28/2009 3:26:39 PM |

I am just hoping and praying that they let somebody like Brett Carson make the team and play on the 3rd pairing with Alberts instead of Wallin.

I, too, am hoping for Carson to make the team at some point. It would be easy to turn my BABCHUK 33 jersey into a CARSON 33, if he sticks with 33. 7/28/2009 4:06:17 PM |
Sweden All American 12295 Posts user info edit post |
I think Wallin is going to be pretty set on the 3rd pair, and with his contract expiring after this season 10/11 would be the more likely time to see Carson/Rodney/Borer/McBain coming up and seeing significant minutes. Somebody will get hurt and there won't be a Kaberle in the box to come down and play 3rd pair, one of those kids is going to see plenty of time but Wallin starts there I'm sure. 7/28/2009 4:07:37 PM |
