we dominated them the second half of the game. the ball was in their end most of the second half and we had numerous good chances. we probably should have won.

^Sounds like you made the right choice on how to spend your day.

Anyway, does anyone know a really good striker who is a scoring machine, or a really good defender? We have a pretty good forward who has made it to 4 out of 8 games so far, so he doesn't help us much. I'm afraid a lot of guys are sick of getting their ass and will be quiting. Hopefully certain ones do, like the guy who has only been at 3 games. To win at this level you have to be able to win a game 3-2, or 4-3.

I think I know who you're talking about. and I totally agree. He's the ONLY person that actually makes me mad when I play, except when Kevin gets a dumb card or when people constantly argue with the refs.

^I won't cry, if Andrew doesn't come back. I think he kind of got stuck in a rut though. He said something about getting a promotion at UPS. He never said anything about working more weekend hours, but my guess is that he maybe has to. Our goalkeeper got somewhat lucky. His schedule at work changed before the season started, so he didn't pay me and then said he couldn't play this season.

As for the 2 defenders I signed after week 3, yeah the one isn't that good and the other one had reserve duty, then he hurt his ankle in his first game, then he stayed home to rest it the next week, then he had reserve duty, and then he wrote me an e-mail saying he couldn't find us at the field on Saturday, or something like that. Instead of missing 2 out of 7 he now will miss at least 4 out of 7 games. I hope Jordan comes back in the spring though even though he is mostly a no show.

I'm just glad I found people on tww. You guys have showed up more and played better than anyone.

6-0 win tonight . It was the 2nd to last place team, but still glad to get a shutout finally 3-0-2 on the season. Next week's game pretty much determines the regular season champion and of course we are missing our top goalscorer (he is 13 out of 19 of our goals) and our two best defenders.

Oh well...I'll just have to step up my game haha.

We won 2-0 today. Since FC Blizzard lost to Royal Pains and Flying Dog lost to SHW earlier, we have an outside shot at 2nd in the table. We need to win next week and have Blizzard beat Flying Dog.

It can happen!

I'd like to see the stats on how many games Sporting played with less than 11 men the past two seasons. It's probably about half the games.

I think that was the first game this season that we played without 11. I wish I had been there though. I hate missing games.

We played 11 vs 10 against SHW. No need to say how well that went. This was only the second game we have played with less than 11.

Oh and for those of you who are interested in how many no shows we have, here is my start chart. Two guys joined after week 3.

I don't either. It pisses me off too because I really don't want to go past 21 and would rather keep it at 19. I am sure there is someone in the free agent pool who could have made it to 7+ games this season instead of missing 6+ games. David told me that I should get a team of 22 good players, if I want to win. I think I will up it to 21 in the spring though. I don't want to go past that incase everyone would show up. I don't even mind when players miss 4 games, but after that I start to wonder why they wasted their money.

I hated missing the games I did and they were both for legit reasons. Even if I was ridiculously loaded, I can't imagine wasting money because I was lazy or whatever.

^I expect people our age to miss games because of weddings, funerals, work, vacation, etc along with being sick, or injured, but there comes a point when it isn't worth the new flat rate of $85 for returning players, $110 for first year players.

^^^ yeah that is always frustrating in rec sports. i've had the same thing happen in softball and volleyball leagues I play in. You don't get enough showing up so you up the numbers...and then that season EVERYONE shows up and you have too many players...so you drop a few only to be short all the time...rinse and repeat. I've been lucky with this soccer team that we have had a fairly consistent amount of people show up, but I def know how annoying that can be for the person coordinating the team :/

ugh. we haven't had attendance problems at all this year until tonight. Most important game we have left and 6 out of our 10 field starters will not be at the game tonight now I don't even know what kind of lineup to go with. Both strikers, both center mids, and our two best backs are out.

You can't really recover from that.

5-0 to the Hibs.

6-2-2 on the year and an outside shot at second in the league.

If the Sporting gk hadn't sucked so bad then it would have been about 2-0. The good news is enough guys have failed to show up that I can now make room for better forwards, defenders, and a real gk. Honestly, if we had a gk that could catch the ball and a forward who could score then we would do ok against teams like Newcastle at least. I just hope all of twwers comes back in the spring. They played better than anyone else on the team. Some of the pool players I picked up weren't that good.

Anyway, it was the typical TWW Super Clasico, only this time red cards were handed out during the brawl unlike last springs royal rumble at center circle.

Hopefully next season isn't another epic fail.

It takes a couple seasons to find a core group of guys and get everyone on the same page. Honestly, you guys have improved a lot, and you'll only get better if you play together more.

Do you happen to know the scores from the other games? I want to know if Blizzard beat Flying Dog.

do you guys not do any sort of playoff up there? Or is it just final standings?

We have 2 more games. We dropped from 1st to 3rd after the forfeit last game The other thing that sucks about that game is that because we didn't forfeit outright but forfeited due to cards (we had 7 and then got the red card), it counts as 0-7 instead of 0-3. Stupid rule. I can understand if you got like 3 reds or something. But 2 yellows on the same guy when you only had 7 guys isn't really the intent of that rule imho...they basically are telling us it was better for us to not play then man up and try to play 7v11.

Oh well. I think we'll probably finish 2nd and then we'll get our chance in the tourney.

^no, we just go by regular season standings in TASL. Dream Sports indoor league does have a playoff though. All of the teams play on the same night and play games that last only 1 half. If you win the 8 team tournament then you play 1 and 1/2 games on that night.

Gotcha. Because not everyone gets to play everyone else the same number of times in our division, our league is taking the top 4 teams to a playoff to determine the champion.

We won 5-4 last night even though I played the worst game I have all season. I'll sum it up by saying I got scored on off their kickoff after we scored our first goal. I was instructing my sweeper about something their strikers were doing and we were standing around the penalty spot when the ref blew the whistle. As soon as he blew the whistle for their kickoff I started backpedaling just to get back in position, no idea they were about to shoot. Heard the shot, looked up, got a fist to it but I was having to dive backwards so it only got punched into the upper 90 instead of over. Shot my confidence for the whole game. Ultimate fail

Here is another soccer pickup group in Raleigh that one of my teammates told me about. These guys keep things under control. They play 10 vs 10 coed and don't allow anyone to walk onto the field randomly. You won't have to worry about 14 vs 14 on a 40 yard field like you do with Davis Drive Park or the frat fields.

^ I play with them regularly on Sundays at Dix, good people. The field is absolutely horrible though, so be prepared if you play then. I haven't been to any of the meetups other than Sunday. The games are usually pretty good, everyone is out there to have fun so if you screw up or try to do something new / stupid no one really gets mad.

^I was out there today and so was Evan from the Rukus FC team. I like how they keep things under control and don't allow it to turn into a 14 vs 14 game. Today the so called beginner game was harder than the so called advanced game. I just wish I could find someone worth a damn to fill in the empty spots on my roster. No one seemed interested.

ugh.

We lost tonight to a team we beat 5-1 during the regular season. Between injuries and out of town work assignments 3 of our top 5 defenders and our two top goal scorers were out for the semi-final today. We lost 4-1 (2 of those goals came in the last 5 minutes though as we were pushed way up). On the plus side, I had the game of my life with the saves that I pulled off, but it sucks to not make it to the finals after being (imo) the best team in the league this season.

Oh well. Really fun first season for my first time playing soccer in 7 years

The meetup group currently has 1 spot left in the 3:30 pm advanced game today and 11 spots left for the 2:00 pm beginner game. Don't be fooled, 2 weeks ago pretty much the same group of people played in both games.

I would come out today but I got kicked in the back of the knee while clearing a ball in our indoor league last Thursday. Huge charlie horse in the top of my left calf. It's starting to ease up but there's no way I could run right now, so I'm taking the week off and hopefully will be back next week.

Also got blasted in the chest two weeks in a row stepping into someone taking a shot. Both were rockets, the first hit me directly in the sternum and had me doubled over for a minute or so because I couldn't breathe. Last week got hit in the ribs on my right side and had a nice red circle there for a couple days

Why does someone that plays on my team each season think they have to start a new team the following season?

Also, why do people say they want to return, but can't even take the time to sign up and pay later?

sort of related to this thread but I almost got a year-long field assignment in Raleigh. It didn't really end up working out with the other stuff I am working on here but that would have been kind of cool. Would have ended up looking for a place to play in Raleigh while up there.
