I was wondering why from about 7 minutes left to 3 minutes left Howell who was having his best game ever was on the bench, while Leslie who had hardly played all day was in. It was about that same time that their big man scored about 10 in a row. 1/23/2011 2:20:46 PM |

I think the bitching today is justified.
Lowe did a terrible job in the last 14 minutes. He put a scrub lineup in when we were up 15 or 17 that allowed them to cut the lead to a workable margin.
Then our starters came in and Tracy and Harrow played like shit and gave up the lead.
Then he put Leslie in out of nowhere when it was clear he didnt belong on the floor. He's an energy player with limited skill so if he's sick he can't possibly help us out there.
Then he left Brown out there when he was getting destroyed and giving up layups every play in a tight game.
That was a totally unacceptable coaching performance in my opinion and I like Sidney. A loss there would have possibly ended our season, we can't afford to take chances like that. Play guys that help you win, don't get cute and try to experiment with junk lineups like that when the game isn't over.
Javi, Williams, Wood, Painter, Leslie??? In a conference game. Get the fuck out of here Sidney. Get your act together.
We really won off of a miracle offensive rebound that bounced to Tracy off of Harrow's garbage shot at the end. Without that fluke, we probably lose and this place would have been in for a justified MELLLTDOWWWN

I just watched the last 5 minutes for the first time after hearing how close the game was. I gotta say, for all the criticism, state had a ton of heart. To give up that big of a lead and come out and fight really hard to keep it close from then on i impressive. Tracy made one hell of a play by knowing the only way to make that big basket was to tip it back to himself hard off the glass... well done.
I'm happy with the win, doesn't matter how it happened. A lot of shots fell for Miami that they were missing earlier too (but obviously not the pick and roll easy layups )
GO PACK! BEAT CLEMSON!

i haven't read the thread, did anybody else think that one of the miami's players' foot was on the line when he hit a 3? it was early in the 2nd half, when we were up 12+. i might be wrong, it might have been a 3, but i swear it didn't look like it, and they kept playing with no replay. i turned to my friend and said "i could easily see that 1 point coming back to haunt us".

MEANWHILE, ON THE NC STATE BENCH..
Coach Strickland attempts to wake Xavier Gonzalez, who has fallen into a deep slumber after spending an hour and a half keeping his seat warm.
Enrico, a formidable opponent in the Carmichael gymnasium, dreams of the day when he will be handed the reigns to the NC State offense.
Coach Lowe enjoys some Bojangles' chicken while his team blows a large lead. NC State will switch chicken suppliers next season, going with new-to-Raleigh Popeye's. When asked for a comment after the game, Lowe responded with part coachspeak, part disappointment. "I'm not sure the recruits will like that Popeye's comes in a box instead of a bucket. Buckets of Bojangles' chicken are part of my in-game activities, and I'm grateful to the alumni who have buckets sent down to me during each game," he said.
The NC State fans, who are used to seeing high-level talent blow large leads against inferior opponents, sit in silence and wait for the inevitable dancing L.

1. Yes, we got beat on the pick and roll, because the miami guard handling the ball was really good at moving around it, BUT... he didn't get any help in the open lane because Lowe didn't want him dishing the ball out for an open 3 (which they didn't miss many of in the second half). Brown should have been able to adjust and stop that from happening after the first couple of times, but wasting a timeout to get him out of the game would have been a waste, especially with it being as close as it got so close to the end of the game.
2. Doubling down on the fat guy causes two fold problems. One, Howell/Painter weren't big enough to really defend him under the basket, he's so damn big and, two, if you double him you risk leaving #3 or #15 wide ass open for a three, which we slipped up and let happen late in the game.
So, when all of you jump on here thinking your gameplans would be so much better considering what you've already seen happen on tv, you need to step back and realize that you might not actually be thinking about this stuff the best way. Calculated decisions about what to guard/give up are being made. Lowe does not just randomly make changes during the game.1/24/2011 11:56:22 AM |
