It's looking like they're going to resort to spraying the reactors with concrete... or at least #4.

I kind of fell in love with Japan

I don't give a fuck about anime and nerdy otaku shit

but the Japanese are incredible people with a rich and interesting culture
and Tokyo is like NYC but friendly and sufficiently weird

Yeah, I'd like an update on the reactors from some unfiltered news source.

WTF is going on

Quote :
"Workers on site have succeeded in increasing the stability of the Fukushima Daiichi reactors, with units 5 and 6 now in cold shutdown. Pressure built up within unit 3 but a more significant venting does not seem necessary now.

...

Despite contradictory comments by the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission to US politicians and media, most observers in nuclear industry and regulation consider the measures taken by Japanese authorities to be prudent and appropriate.

The entire coastline is a big mess of rubble right now, it's terrible but a looter could probably do pretty good at the moment. Just have enough water and food for a loong time.

^it's interesting how they have virtually no accounts of looting on the news.

They have looters but unlike America they are smart enough to keep it off the news. And who cares if someone is stealing from a house that is a total loss...oh yea Americans.

America the entire WORLD can learn something from Japan's reaction to this tragic event. Good for the Japanese in picking up the broken bits and slowly getting it all back together.

You know, after Egypt and Katrina and a couple other events, I have little faith in the humanity's ability to keep their their head high and approach a terrible situation with dignity. The world should take example of the Japanese.

I'll be interested to see if they bother to rebuild some of these towns. A lot of them were on the brink of becoming ghost towns in the first place.

I've heard that some probably won't be due to the negative population growth and resulting housing surplus.

I saw a lame fundraiser for Japan on Fayetteville Street today. About 8 college aged kids in red shirts with a sign saying Donate to Japan, but none of them were actively engaging people. Couldn't even tell where to put the money if you wanted to donate. By the time I finished lunch they were gone. As someone who has coordinated fundraisers, I really hope they weren't State students because that shit was embarrassing.

Yes, because the third largest economy in the world needs the spare change of people leaving the Big Easy.

The money isn't going to help anyone. They're just doing it so they can sleep well tonight and then one day brag about doing disaster relief.

I want you all to know that we, Japanese, really appreciate all the support from you. It will take years to fully recover from the devastation of earthquake and tsunami, but I'm sure we'll do so.

Again, thank you for your physical and mental support!

i've always heard that before a tsunami hits the water goes out from the beach and then rushes back in as the tsunami wave. has anyone found video of this phenomenon?

there's good footage of the beaches in Indonesia before the tsunami

the beaches were HUGE because the water had gone away before rushing back in

check out the beginning of this video - it shows exactly what you want at the beginning. I watched some special on it where they talked about how a lot of the children that were locals died because when the water receded they were running up and grabbing the fish that were left on the sand.

Chuck Norris at the 1:12 mark of the video

I'm still amazed at the incredible energy pushing that water like it did. Incredible.

I wonder if these people standing on tops of buildings ever got scared after they saw the 3rd and 4th floors of the buildings they were on get submerged.

now this is interesting however a bit unbelievable

HAARP Magnetometer data shows Japan earthquake was induced.

Quote :
"What is the significance of a 2.5 Hz ULF broadcast? The natural resonance of an earthquake is 2.5 Hz. Scientists working for the United States military discovered this using the phased array antennas at the HAARP facility in Alaska. HAARP’s own charts suggests that earthquakes occurred constantly for 3 days. We know for a fact that they haven’t.

The HAARP magnetometer data provides proof that the Japan earthquake was not a naturally occurring quake – it was triggered."
