^^Not the greatest "article" even if it does raise a few good anecdotal points. Seinfeld was chosen just to stage the guy's point in a biased way--when in reality there's a whole world of difference here, not just an audience base "discriminating" with their criticism. Seinfeld is a twenty year old sitcom, most of what we now see as "bad choices" for it can be attributed to how all popular shows were built at the time. You can contrast all you want but any reliable argument would contrast a show to its contemporaries. Most of the viable criticism of Girls comes to comparing it to the current model of television writing.

There's plenty of people criticizing Girls for no apparent reason, there's plenty of decent criticism too. Either way it's sort of ridiculous. Also, it annoys me that in the comments they're talking about how the article is satire so you can't argue that it's a bad article--it's parody, not satire, there's a pretty big difference. Parody can be super heavy handed like this.

I think the premise of the show is to make all of the female characters as unlikeable as possible. then afterwards, when the audience hates them and finds them annoying as fuck, have good things happen to them (adam-hannah reuniting, marnie getting back with her ex who deserves better, etc)

To me the rom com was a surface feeling. I also was going "no! Train wreck relationship! No! She's only calling you bc her dad rejected her (rightfully), she can't fucking face marnie, and Jessa high tailed it outta there! No Adam no! Noooooooooooo!!!!"

So there's that layer of it. Which is why I felt it consistent for this season and i loved it so mich. not all rom-commy.

Adam is def the best character. I can't remember the exact line but in the episode when he got that new girlfriend and he was hanging out at the bar with her and some guy came up... he was like "Can you believe we are missing the game for this?" Adam's response was "Oh yeah. Fuck." The way he said it... I just couldn't stop laughing.

Just finished watching the second season and reading through a bit of this thread. Fairly predictable (thread...not show...although the show is a bit predictable).

Can't figure out why I like this show so much...because it's definitely not because of Dunham's horrible body and tits. I get it...but doesn't meant I have to like it.

Working in the restaurant industry for so long, I've seen every single type of these girls...so its entertaining watching these girls portrayed in television, which I don't think has been done before. Its also different to like a show where you pretty much hate all of the main characters (only liking Marnie[ey?] because she's hot as fuck). I do like Adam and Ray a lot though...they provide most of the much needed comedy relief.

Is there a third season planned?? As much as I liked the show, I kind of don't know where they go from here. Does Adam's presence make Hannah's OCD go away and inspire her writing?? It felt like a movie ending to me, so I'd be okay if the show was done.

Marnie's hypocrisy about the money was definitely intentional. All of the characters have layers of flaws and their exposure is one of the appeals of the show.
