After seeing this administration and General Assembly in action, my inner cynic alarms are suggesting that he knows they will override the veto, but this gives him cover to "appear" more moderate knowing that Roy Cooper is likely to run against him next year.

Hey, regardless of how I feel about the bill in question, glad to see someone standing up to the federal government.

And before you dismiss me as being a partisan hack or whatever, imagine what a Trump DOJ might look like, and what it might try to do in terms of limiting rights for immigrants. The tables could be turned in a few years, and you might see governors of states with sanctuary cities standing up to the DOJ, depending on who's in charge.

I wasn't sure if I should post this in here or the NCGOP thread but it looks like the NC House is set for a bipartisan vote to terminate the I77 toll lane contract. I doubt the Senate will follow, but politically, it still seems like an anchor dragging down PAT! And other conservatives along the I77 corridor. One of the most conservative areas of the state that actually has money. It's also a massive middle finger to ALEC which has been pushing public/private partnerships over the last three years. So kudos to the NC House on that.

He kind of has a point, though. HB2 was cited as the reason that Charlotte lost the NBA All-Star Game, but meanwhile, the NBA still has events in China, for example. If the NBA truly cared about freedoms and equal rights and whatnot, they wouldn't play games in China.
