Who said you have to be an expert? I'm saying you should attempt to know wtf you're talking about before trying to discuss it. Maybe it's just me but I actually do research and try to learn about something before I spout off about how horrible it is. Somehow that's okay if you're against gun ownership or support hardcore regulation though. This thread is full of people making arguments about things that they don't understand AT ALL! There's another assload of posts complaining that gun owners won't have a discussion on it. How the hell are we supposed to discuss it when they don't even know what the hell they're talking about (rifled vs threaded barrels, assault rifles vs "assault weapons", misunderstanding someone's completely valid point about an AR15 being a fairly ideal gun for home protection). We have a bunch of "this should be banned because (completely misunderstood point), this thing that's already banned should be banned, it should be illegal to buy a gun this way that's already illegal" or statements posted as fact that can't be backed up. Seriously, it's like some of you think that watching ER or Grey's Anatomy would be enough to argue with a doctor about the merits of a surgery. You're on a computer. It has access to this amazing thing called The Internet. Do some research, learn wtf a threaded barrel/barrel shroud/pistol grip are, the effects of different calibers are, what semi-automatic means, etc. Maybe of everyone actually understands the topic, a real discussion can be had.

The similarities/parallels between gun control and the pit bull debate are remarkable:

1. There is a very convincing argument from the pro pit side that responsible owners make great pets out of pit bulls, and often times put them to good use.

2. There is also the irresponsible owner that uses them illegally for vile and evil purposes

3. Then, there are the 1 out of however many cases where a mistake will happen and a child or innocent adult becomes a victim from the pit of either the responsible/irresponsible owner. Such activities cry for the regulation of pits because it is in their very genetic nature to be aggressive and deadly. After all, there were bread to inflict deadly force.

4. Also interesting is that in the more liberal parts of the world, there are heavy bans and restrictions on these animals.
