Alcohol, smoking and mcdonalds kill more people than guns and cars combined

Maybe, too busy wrapping Christmas presents to look up stats

Not to mention that driving has gotten ridiculously more safe specifically due to both regulations and manufacturers building in safety features.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d8/USA_annual_VMT_vs_deaths_per_VMT.png

^ which has caused alcohol and smoking to be scrutinized continuously and regulated. McDonalds is in crisis mode because less people are eating their garbage food.

dog bites kill more americans than terrorists but our president is too PC to admit that we have a problem with dogs in this country.

Same goes for cars, yet still a lot of people die from these things. I think common sense gun law should be passed but don't expect them to really change much.

So despite the fact that "common sense" laws regarding cars has drastically reduced car-related deaths, you don't expect good gun laws to reduce gun death?

I think people who are intent on killing will ignore the new laws that could be passed.

it's not about them following the law, it's about making guns harder for them to get.

[Edited on December 9, 2015 at 12:08 PM. Reason : but congrats, that's a marginally better argument than comparing guns to cars]

^^That's a fine hypothesis, but what evidence do you have to support it?

We know laws do affect behavior, otherwise we wouldn't have laws.

It should be harder for criminals to get guns or people who have a history of being insane. I think most everyone agrees to that. I even thought the voter ID law seemed like common sense at first, but in the end I think it is important that for every law that has the potential to infringe upon our rights have clearly defined limits that will not place undue hardships on responsible citizens.

I would also be ok with this maybe not 80 but definitely 100.

Heart disease is also a real problem.

Not to discount the problem with guns, but if the goal of legislation is to benefit the lives of citizens, then why not tackle the causes of preventable death in order of which cause results in the most deaths?

Or do them all simultaneously?

theres at least 20 problems more serious than terrorism.

and all of those problems are easier to solve

the funny part is that the "solution" to terrorism might even increase it

its ridciculous

Instead of worrying about Americans with guns, why don't we worry about handing out fiance visas to people who have already been radicalized.

You're infinitely more likely to be effected by an American with a gun than someone on a fiance visa. Yeah, this lady shouldn't have been let in, but that's a silly statement.

Is there a checkbox for "I have been radicalized" on those visa forms? I've never seen one hence the question.

To be fair, I do think there were some red flags with this woman's application, and I realize it would take some resources, but it sounds like if they really looked into her background, it wouldn't be too hard to realize she was kinda radical...

It's funny how we're so concerned with the minutiae about how these people got radicalized, while at the same time our leading GOP candidate is spouting rhetoric that is radicalizing islamophobic types and militia types. We have the template for how you create extremists right in front of us.

Radicalizing is OK when you are a WASP. Then it is called "Family" or "Traditional" values and foreign policy is done for your "protection and security." After-all surely every ISIS militant is just itching to blow up Smalltown Kansas and Billy Rae's farm in bum-fuck Tennessee.

I could be wrong about that. i thought i remembered reading a few things that should have thrown up red flags, but i can't find them now, so maybe i'm misremembering. i did find that there was an ABC report that she used a fake address in pakistan, but it was later updated to say that she gave an address that wasn't precise, but that her family did own a house in the neighborhood.

I did see that some questions on the fiance visa application are "whether they would enter the country to engage in terrorist activities and whether they’re members of terrorist organizations". I assume she checked "no".

FUCK TRUMP

While Trump Spews Hate, These Muslims Just Raised $100,000 for San Bernardino Victims

Quote :
"In a random act of kindness, Muslim Americans are shattering everything Donald Trump and his supporters believe about them.

In the days following the mass shooting in San Bernardino, California, a coalition of Muslim-led groups in Southern California and elsewhere around the nation has committed to raising $100,000 for the families of the shooting victims. The money raised will go toward various expenses like funeral costs, medical bills, and rent/mortgage payments for households directly affected by the recent terrorist attack at the Inland Regional Medical center.

As of this writing, $97,000 has been raised "

"San Bernardino plot thickens: 'Nerdy' neighbor who bought guns for San Bernardino shooter and may have planned earlier 2012 attack with Farook was also married to terrorist's sister-in-law (but she lived with another man)

- Enrique Marquez is being questioned in wake of San Bernardino killings
- He was close friends and an ex-neighbor of gunman Syed Rizwan Farook
- Now documents show pair were also related to each other by marriage
- Marquez was married to Mariya Chernykh, a Russian, whose sister had earlier wed Syed Raheel Farook, the brother of the San Bernardino killer
- But marriage could have been a sham as pair did not share an address
- Chernykh lived with another man, Oscar Romero, used his last name online, and posted pictures with little girl who appears to be their daughter
- News comes as it was revealed Farook may have been planning attack on a California school in 2011 or 2012 alongside Marquez"

You're referring to when I called out moron's bullshit.

We were discussing if Mosques were being torched in the USA, he said they were, I proved they weren't. Naturally the liberal fallback is "did you claim no Muslims have ever been harrassed EVER???? OMG BIGOT"

Nobody disagrees that actual cases of racism/islamaphobia are bad. The disagreement comes when one side likes to completely exaggerate the truth, jump to conclusions, and lie. Those are what I refer to as false narratives.

That doesn't mean I don't believe someone somewhere has been mean to a Muslim, it just mean's I disagree when one side lies and exaggerates to further a narrative for political leverage (if you're a politician) or to make yourself feel morally superior (if you're a gullible liberal in most cases).
