I need some suggestions for cardio/conditioning. I don't have room anymore to drag the sled and all that. Lately I have been running the stairs and through some apartment construction and sprints. 7/19/2009 12:59:42 AM |

^ fartleks. If you have a track around that's perfect. Sprint the straights and do a light jog on the bends. If you're in a city setting, you can do something similar and just alternate with each block. It really gets the heart pumping.

bored with cardio? youtube/google Tabata intervals and download some Tabata songs w/ the beeps...I use this now for my cardio training, you can basically do whatever you want for the intervals so long as it gets your HR near your max. I like utilizing my strength for cardio and alternating between upper/lower body intervals so I don't fatigue as fast. My HR stays in the 180s for the entire session once I'm rolling.7/19/2009 5:30:13 AM |

3.5 mile run, 10 mile bike ride, 60 push ups, 80 crunches, 4 minutes center plank, 2 minutes on each side plank.
I've only been running for a week, but I think tomorrow I'm just going to go ahead and up my mileage to 5 miles at 8 minute mile pace. I haven't felt sore since the first 3 days of running. Once the school year starts up again I think I'm going to start swimming and try and do a sprint triathlon. 7/22/2009 2:30:10 PM |

^ Probably is just the fact that you took two days of rest. That or maybe you actually ran the whole time this one through? When you first start to get back into shape (if you were at one point actually in shape) your times improve drastically just from going out and doing something. The first day I started to run again in 6 months I did 3 miles in ~30 minutes. The second day I ran it in under 27 minutes. Just saying- you don't have to eat right to get back into shape.
I know this post makes me sound like a dick, but I'm really not trying to be.

I was in monster shape a year ago, then the school year picked up and i lost track of my workouts. I picked up running again a week ago (i was lifting since mid May) and, yea you're right, your times improve fast.
Once you get over the initial lazy hump, running gets addicting and i feel great afterwords. It also makes me eat healthier indirectly cause i don't want to waste the workout with a bad meal.

Yes I agree it is quite addicting. I'm going to increase my mileage to 5 miles tomorrow, and probably do a 40ish mile bike ride in the Raleigh area.
I'm not much into lifting, I feel much more comfortable lifting my own body weight (Push ups, pull ups, crunches, planks, etc) than using weights to tone and define muscles I most likely will never use. Also- I am the worst eater in the world, I just don't eat very much. 7/22/2009 8:49:00 PM |

Link: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/9952075
It's pretty cool how you can see the heart rate spikes for each set of reps I did.
Still debating whether it is worth the $350... so far it's a pretty cool device.
Here is the workout I did:
Bench Press 14x95lbs, 11x95lbs, 9x95lbs Bicep Curl (Freeweights) 14x25, 11x25, 9x25 Front Shoulder Raises (Freeweights) 12x20, 12x20, 10x20 Side Shoulder Raises 12x20, 14x20, 12x20 Dips 16x128, 13x128, 9x128 Ab Crunches 16x15, 13x15, 10x15 Leg Raises (Vertical) 18, 15, 12
That doesn't include the 30 minutes of running in TACT or the Budokon kicking and yoga classes. 7/28/2009 12:42:25 AM |
