I easily lose at least two hours a day waiting for my computer to do the simplest tasks due to the encryption on the HD.

seriously, I'm not here for one day and everything goes to hell in a ham basket!

(yes, I know it's handbasket, but I'm hungry and ham is on my mind and I don't feel like changing it)

Emails from project management that are similar to:

"Hi I know this is the last week of a couple month long project, but we just decided/found out that there is this [insert *major* change to the project that has significant impact and tons of rework for me that is not in my scope] that we would like/the client is requesting. The deadline is still this Friday. We figure this shouldn't be a big issue for anyone but let us know if this is a problem for you! Thanks"

lol reading some post-doc Resumes

Quote :
"Working on the association of schizophrenia with CCK-AR gene, the experimental
method was RELP-PCR. Using the SNP as a gene marker to analyze the gene
frequency and genetype frequency. The association analysis was a statistical method
to calculate whether there was association between the CCK-AR gene and the
schizophrenia. The result showed that the love illusion was associated with CCK-AR
gene.
"

What is this 'love illusion' in schizophrenia?

The case of drinks appears to be sealed, right?

Most people aren't asshole enough to open a sealed container of something. $profit!

^^ Yeah, that's exactly where I sit.

Who the hell says that? I don't think I've ever heard anyone say that.
I always thought it was funny when people said bang instead of exclamation point.

^thought that was an outlook setting?

my outlook sends read receipts automatically. Anyway, I could get nothing done without read receipts because people like to read emails and not respond to the inquiry until days (or weeks later), so it's a 'gotcha' if they instantly read it and do not respond... next day I do a follow up phone call and BAM.

we're waiting for a batch of ~100 new PC's to be distributed after IT gets off their asses (currently XP with a bunch of things runing on AS400 etc). The new computers arrived in January and IT is supposedly swamped with other crap. Otherwise, they say they'd have the upgrades done in 3 days. It's a 600-employee manufacturing plant, how swamped can you be?? On another note, the damn american big wigs (japanese company) are scared of the IT guys, so they can't pressure them either

My PC is especially shitty. It's an old compaq P4 1.7ghz (circa 2001) with 504mb RAM (how it got 504 instead of 512, I have no idea) trying to run god-damned libre-office

[Edited on August 22, 2012 at 8:52 PM. Reason : about 50% of the plant's PC's are like mine. the rest are just slightly less crappy.]

haha. you have 504MB of RAM because 8MB was scavenged by the mobo for its "integrated graphics". damn, haven't heard about shit like that in a while

A)How big is your IT department if they can deploy 100 PCs in 3 days? That's one hell of an accomplishment unless you're talking about labs or something similar.
B)The above is completely nonsensical if they haven't had time to even start the process since the computers were delivered in January. January? Really? 7 months of warranty wasted with the computers sitting still in their boxes and 7 months of productivity lost while users were dealing with creaky old machines. Nice job guys.

Yeah, I miss our old building with several smaller restrooms since it's annoying when the cleaning people close the one big restroom in this building which they seem to always do right after lunch.

People requesting completely unsupported configurations (hay guise I want to dual-boot linux and windows and I want you to set it up for me by the way I've never used linux before that's cool right) and then acting surprised when we say we can't do that.

well the winxp -> win7 compatibility bugs can be worked out in "3 days." For my part, I will go myself to pick up and install my PC

"IT" is 4 people: manager, an asst manager, a girl who only works on some of the software, and a guy tech. The manager and asst manager have done nothing but shoot down ideas and automate biweekly "system maintenances" as far as I can tell. Otherwise, IT is locked up behind windowless doors only they have access to. Ahhh.. they've got it made
