yea i read about that but the story and artwork don't interest me

good old school RPGs sold well I don't understand why there aren't more

can we get a new Chrono Trigger / Cross, Xenogears, Breath of Fire, Mario RPG

does everything have to be a first person shooter now?

Perhaps with the new hardware, the production costs and time for an RPG is getting prohibitively high. Especially with the expectation of large cinematic clips, hours of voice acting dialogue, etc.

I agree though: I do hope they start putting out more RPG's. Last Remnant looks interesting, and a new Chrono RPG would be pretty cool too. I'd also like to see a Persona game. If you don't mind going PS2, Persona 4 is a lot of fun; guaranteed at least 80 hours.

I really enjoyed the Valkryie Chronicles demo. The game is actually sitting on my coffee table waiting to be played. I borrowed it and Dead Space from a friend. Beat Dead Space, but I have no idea when I'm going to have time to get into VC.

^Yeah, JRPGs on HD consoles this gen have been underwhelming, and I think production costs are a big part of it. Really the best ones are all on the DS.

I played the demo for Eternal Sonata and thought it might be good, but the combat system really didn't appeal to me, so I couldn't see myself putting up with that in order to get the story.

I've also been lamenting the lack of good major JRPG's in the current generation of consoles. I'm waiting for Last Remnant to get ported to PS3 (hopefully fixing some of the Xbox issues), and then for FFXIII and FFXIII: Versus.

I'd play Lost Odyssey and Tales of Vesperia in a heart beat if I had a 360. I think Vesperia will eventually come to the PS3 though, as it's from the same people who made Eternal Sonata. The makers of Lost Odyssey actually canceled their next game just because the HD JRPG market is so bad right now. Really a shame.

If you don't mind stepping back to late generation PS2 stuff, Tales of the Abyss isn't bad.

What about Folklore> It was kindof like an RPG and I remember the gameplay being pretty good from the demo. Might be up your alley, I dunno.

This concept for a Playstation controller looks awesome, but how does it benefit you the player? The idea is that you can twist the two sides of your controller around. How that benefits you in any way, I have no idea. I can see being able to pull them apart. That gives you more freedom like the Wii controllers. But twisting it at a bizarre angle?

The thinking is that it’s for certain things in game. Like when you are on a cycle. When you twist the controller, you are twisting the throttle. So, its uses are going to be pretty limited. Which is why I don’t think we will be seeing this one anytime soon.

heh thats cool.

i already spent the time getting used to playing FPS games on the ps3 sixaxis. I actually enjoy it now instead of the whole WASD + mouse setup, although it WAS easier to aim sometimes with the pc.

Picked up MLB 09 today.

Hell of a lot of fun, but my created player's probably going to end up in the minors after spring training...I'm only hitting about .220

MLB 09 the Show is friggin bad ass.

I love that you can upload player music for batting walk ups/pitcher entry. I downloaded this file from operation sports that had every player's music in a 10-15 second clip and i put everyone's music in the game.

I also created some "Steroid" and "Asshole" chants. The gameplay and lighting is sick as usual, too.

Only tangentially related, but for people who are lamenting the lack of JRPG options on the PS3, the demo for The Last Remnant is available now for PC (can download it through Steam). It comes out for PC at the beginning of April, but it'll be out on PS3 shortly after that. Most of the complaints in reviews for the Xbox360 version that came out last year were about video glitches, frame rate issues and other technical stuff, rather than complaints about gameplay or story. I'm hoping that means the delays in releasing on PC and PS3 are due to working on fixing those flaws so we get the good version of the game.

TLDR: PC demo for The Last Remnant is out on Steam now, so get it if you're thinking about the PS3 version coming out soon.

I think I'm going to wait until both are out to read reviews of how the performance is on both of them. Also, I still use XP so if DX10 has any impact on the graphics, that would make me lean towards the PS3.

So I am debating whether to get Killzone 2 or Street Fighter IV. I am leaning towards street fighter because I don't have a fighting game and have a buttload of shooters.

I was thinking about picking up the Show. Is it worth it to get 2009 over 2008? I don't really care about up to date rosters, is the game play much better? Enhancements worth 35 bucks extra?

2009 is WAY better than 2008, and that saying something.

the dusk-night transition is awesome. The TV-Style replays is awesome. The new pitching camera from behind the pitcher is super realistic. New batting stances, player walk-up music, pitcher entry music, create your own chants (steeerooooids), and an overhaul of gameplay ....the game is just SICK.

The only thing is that the online has been laggy for me so far. But offline the franchise is awesome. i love having to deal with 40 man rosters and stuff like that in the offseason.

MLB 09 is the first baseball game I've bought in several years, and it's worth every penny.

I've been completely hooked on RttS--it'll pull me in for hours at a time.

is it just me or is the show absurdly harder than previous years? I'm playing on the default level (veteran) and I've lost 5 out of 6 against the computer. No matter what happens, they pretty much always hit some bombs, and hit pretty legit pitches, and i can't manage to push runs across.

you can't just hack at pitches like previous years, you need to work the count and get the pitcher's pitch count up and hope for some mistakes.

also, they made pitching harder this year, as confirmed by the developers on the operation sports forums.

Just broke down and got The Show 09. It is an incredible game, though maybe I should have gotten 08. Because, yeah, I suck hard at batting. Pitching is a little better, but yeah... the game is hard, or maybe it's because I haven't played a baseball in a while.

Got into Valkyria Chronicles a little bit the last couple days (been nice not playing WoW lately, given me some time to catch up on other titles) and I've really enjoyed it so far. I absolutely love the graphics. Cell shading has been overused lately, but it works here because it contrasts the theme/story of the game which is actually pretty depressing (in a good way). Plus it's just really well done overall and looks amazing.

I'm playing Chronicles too and I like it a lot, it's very unique. If I had any criticism it's that maybe the battles don't move along a little faster....seems like one skirmish can last for a long time, particularly in the later chapters. I spend alot of time just moving slower troops up to where they can even see a little action, their movement points are so low. I think I'm at chapter 8 or so...

My new LCD TV has this Auto Motion 120hz plus feature that REALLY makes this game look badass, moving at fast frame rates. Although the game is quite awesome to look at. I really dig it.

I finally sat down and beat Chronicles. Overall, I've enjoyed the game. With regards to the slow moving soldiers, I've had to resort to withdrawing and redeploying slower units like lancers and snipers through captured bases or sometimes not even deploying them initially.

Agreed with the cell shading; it was the right call for this particular game. The game is beautifully done.

Personally, I've enjoyed the personnel management in the game. For the squad folks, they've got a pretty weird set of personalities they've assembled. If you haven't seen it yet, as you use personnel frequently, you start unlocking some of the more advanced (and slightly twisted) personality traits with their corresponding biographies.

This is way late, but I just saw the post today...the battle system actually is fun when you get used to it, but there's just so much text and so many cutscenes that the game drags. It got to the point where I was so frustrated by the constant gameplay interruptions that I just stopped.

VC is definitely on my list, though.

Also tried the Last Remnant demo on Steam and wasn't really impressed...the battles took forever and I never really felt like I had enough control over what my party was doing. I don't think I'll be picking it up unless the reviews can convince me otherwise.
