Yeah, one station called it, the other said something about a new political map thanks to SC leaning toward Obama.
I guess it has something to do with something like less than 2% of precincts reporting.
^Yeah, I just checked CNN:
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/results/individual/#mapPSC
...if they feel comfortable calling it based on 26k votes and 1% reporting, then more power to them.

Boone All American 5237 Posts user info edit post |
I really, really want to believe that they have experts weighing the importance of the counties reporting in.
Otherwise these numbers are pointless until we get more precincts reporting. 11/4/2008 8:12:51 PM |
Charybdisjim All American 5486 Posts user info edit post |
^ Yeah that's the problem with passing on precinct reports in near real time and then applying those numbers to all your graphics and stat counters. The first tiny precincts happen to be radically different politically than the bulk of a state and your electoral maps and graphics display nonsense.
Ahaha, the CNN real time map has Alabama at 92% for Obama right now. Of course if you look closer you see that they've only recorded about 200 votes. The networks are racing so fast to get information to you they shove it at you before they actually have anything meaningful. I love it.

Everyone just wants to be the "first" to call something. I think it's dumb but whatever. I added msnbc.com and may see what dailykos has to say. I kinda want to watch the coverage on Faux News just to watch them squirm and stutter but the CNN hologram thing just sounds way too cool. 11/4/2008 8:15:43 PM |

I hate the way they do election reporting. They shouldn't announce anything until they're sure. Or at least until every poll in the US is closed.
Also... GA for McCain, and apparently Alabama too.

But then how would they trick millions of people into watching them play with holograms, touch screens, and talking heads for 5 hours straight? Feeding us piles and piles of useless partial information makes them a lot of money.
Speaking of useless partial information, it really looks like they fucked up the polls on Virginia. Florida appears to be pulling another florida and getting annoyingly close. NC... appears to be a commie-liberal-pinko-atheist stronghold. 11/4/2008 8:51:33 PM |
