didn't find any at my local stores in Winston...will keep trying the rest of the week

I'm sure allowing beer sales in Carter-Finley and PNC was part of the deal.
8/6/2019 9:50:14 AM
Kinda wish that State would have gone with a NC-Grown brewery, but I get that New Blegium probably has a much wider market that can be reached.
8/6/2019 10:50:16 AM
I agree, but I think choosing a brewery that has a rather large, almost native, presence in the state is a pretty good option. New Belgium has come pretty hard to our state and is a regular attraction for tourist and locals alike in Asheville.
8/8/2019 1:52:02 AM
Yeah they toed the line of local by going with New Belgium (and I am interested to check out their Asheville spot sometime soon), but still there's plenty of established NC born (not even to mention Raleigh born) breweries.[Edited on August 8, 2019 at 7:43 AM. Reason : ]

I'm not sure how the licensing split is done with "Ol' Tuffy" but it would be cool if they could do a yearly release of it if State owns the licensing. That way we could see a different brewery, or at least collab, from various NC Breweries as time marches on.
8/8/2019 8:30:47 AM
I talked about this idea over a decade ago with various friends. Have any local brewery come out with a sub 5.0% ABV beer, throw it in a red can, and vaguely refer to it as "Wolf Beer" or something similar, and print money come tailgating season. Having the reach of New Belgium and official licensing just turns it into an even bigger money-printing factory. It doesn't even matter if it's an average beer, people will buy it as seen thus far.Breweries in Greenville, Chapel Hill, etc. should be taking notes and getting their purple and baby blue cans ready.
8/8/2019 8:45:40 AM
i think you guys have it backwards. New Belgium reached out to State for this opportunity after the huge success of the Old Aggie collaboration in Colorado. I think we should feel fortunate that they chose us and didn't go to the other brewery school in Boone with the opportunity.]

Picked up some Tuffy yesterday. It is exactly what it should be.Tastes like a Bud but with more flavor. Easy drinking lager. It's a great beer for what it was made to be.And keep in mind opinions are like assholes.

The Total Wine at 15-501 in Durham had a pallet full of it. Got my 12-pack to try out. Planning to enjoy a few this weekend.

It tastes like pbr. Which is cool, because I drink pbr.

WW too good to do an App State beer?
8/9/2019 10:52:59 AM
WW is too busy collaborating with themselves.
8/9/2019 11:39:32 AM
WW doesn't seem like they would give a shit about partnering with Universities for their sports teams. Seem too focused on expanding with their new owners and their sour line. Would be hilarious to see UNC roll out their official beer and it be a sour though. Would make for some shitty tailgating.
8/9/2019 11:55:24 AM
App is like half the size of State, right? i know they've got a good beer scene there and great tailgating and stuff. but the alumni and fan base for NC State is way larger than App State in terms of appealing to a large consumer base.
8/9/2019 12:07:47 PM
AMB already has a Yosefs ale (apps mascot is named yosef). Not officially licensed or anything I don't think
8/9/2019 12:41:07 PM
I recently got a sixer of AMB's Blonde Ale, it was pretty good.
8/9/2019 12:52:01 PM
Since WW is part of Ab Inbev, I imagine that their corporate overlords don't really care about them reaching out to do something like this.
8/9/2019 11:33:50 PM
Just drank an old tuffy and it isn't that good. But they had to make it taste close to cheap beer for the students and fan base.
8/10/2019 5:21:57 PM
old tuffy is a light, pleasant, straight down the middle lager. crushable. A+ would drink again
8/10/2019 8:02:49 PM
Had a bunch of Old Tuffys today. Good damn beer. Way better than the average lite whateverthefuck. Sure it's not a complex IPA, but I figure most of the haters ITT are reacting to the hype that the beer has bc of the badass label/association[Edited on August 10, 2019 at 10:58 PM. Reason : Way better than PBR too]

Is it too soon to just refer to it as Tuffy or OT?[Edited on August 15, 2019 at 2:21 PM. Reason : ]
8/15/2019 2:21:36 PM
I will eat my words. OT (^thanks) is actually a good beer. Had one on draft this weekend. Will hammer.
8/19/2019 9:53:46 AM
i saw the complaints and so actually had low expectations, but i liked it. it's a good basic beer, and if it's true that they will only serve OT, coors light and corona at football games it's the easy choice.
8/19/2019 10:42:21 AM
8/19/2019 11:30:47 AM
i'm skeptical too but i read it on the internets
8/19/2019 12:15:33 PM
all depends on which distributor they sign a contract with
8/19/2019 12:41:13 PM
yes, which is why having coors light and corona together makes no sense. that would be one MillerCoors product and one AB/InBev.
8/19/2019 12:49:48 PM
that’s different than a contract with a local distributor Long Beverage distributes both Coors and Corona locally
8/19/2019 2:19:49 PM
They haven't said what beers yet but OT is confirmed and "one hard seltzer". Also, as expected, no draft and only in cans and "plastic" bottles, assuming they meant aluminum here. I'd be fine with 3-4 beers and a hard seltzer choice, seems fair for the first season. Though the "1 beer per person" is a little annoying for people with spouses, but hey, better than nothing.
8/19/2019 2:54:54 PM
8/19/2019 3:19:31 PM
New Belgium, White Claw, Coors, and Corona are all distributed by Long Beverageit certainly appears that they won the contract

Isn't 1/person a state law issue?[Edited on August 20, 2019 at 8:51 AM. Reason : it's not new info nor specific to nc state]
8/20/2019 8:50:32 AM
I've never had an issue ordering two beers at any professional event.
8/20/2019 8:53:55 AM
different law, bruh
8/20/2019 10:18:22 AM
I found this on the state's ABC website
8/20/2019 11:32:58 PM
i only occasionally run into the 1 drink per person rule when at a bar...they'll ask for the ID of the other person i'm buying for. but it definitely seems like a thing that gets enforced in <10% of places.
8/21/2019 6:37:05 AM
I'm guessing most places ignore the law or there's another section that modifies/supersedes this:14B NCAC 15B .0223
(a) An on-premise permittee or his agent shall not: (3) deliver more than one drink at one time to a patron for his consumption
8/21/2019 6:50:06 AM
I guess you can argue that the additional drink wasn't for that patron's consumption?
8/21/2019 9:20:27 AM
Regardless if you've been able to get it at other venues, NC State has made it pretty clear in their rules they've published that it's going to be 1 beer per customer. I understand why they do it, but I do wish they'd let me bring 2 IDs and get 2 beers, just because I'd truly be getting a beer for someone else that is of legal drinking age and I know she just isn't going to want to walk to get it so I'll end up having to share mine, haha. Honestly I'll probably just leave my seat and hit 2 spots and then return with 2 beers instead.
8/21/2019 9:38:05 AM
NC is selling alcohol at college games. It's a huge leap for this state. Let's be happy with that, eh?
