well the copper IUD paralyzes sperm

i tried the patch too, was on it for about a year, it sucked i hated it and went back on the pill

it was actually a male gyno that recommended the ring to me. he was the only doctor i could get an appt with when i moved to texas and hes amazing.

the chances of getting pregnant on the ring are the same (im pretty sure) as the pill. the ring does look kind of big but you just twist it into a figure 8 shape and pop it in, it goes exactly where it needs to once you get it in.

the pill is just too time consuming for me, having to take it everyday.. forget it.

i did ask my dr about the copper IUD but he wouldn't do it until i was at least married because of the risk of STDs and shit with IUDs is worse. even though im in a serious committed relationship, he said he'd prefer not to do it and im happy with the ring so i let it go.

Apparently, China is working on a birth control for men... and it is 99% effective. They are testing it for adverse results now that they know it works. There was a blip about it in my husband's Men's Health Magazine last night.

Quote :
"
Scientists believe they are one step closer to developing an effective male contraceptive jab after successfully carrying out the largest feasibility study to date.

Researchers at the National Research for Family Planning in Beijing injected 1,000 healthy, fertile male patients with a testosterone-based jab over a two-year period and found only 1 per cent went on to father a child. The men were all aged between 20 and 45 and had fathered at least one child in the two years before the testing began. They were also all involved with healthy female partners between the ages of 18 and 38 who had no reproductive problems of their own.

The trial was the largest effectiveness study of a testosterone-based male contraceptive ever undertaken. At the end of the two-year period only one in 100 men had fathered a child. No contraception is 100 per cent effective – 1 to 2 per cent of women still become pregnant while they are on the Pill – but the jab's success rate puts it on a par with the effectiveness of the female Pill or injections.

Dr Yi-Qun Gu, one of the researchers involved in the testing, said: "For couples who cannot or prefer not to use only female-oriented contraception, options have been limited to vasectomy, condom and withdrawal. Our study shows a male hormonal contraceptive regimen may be a potential, novel and workable alternative."

When the contraceptive Pill was introduced in the 1960s it revolutionised sex lives but also placed the onus of reproductive responsibility on women. Scientists have been looking to try to find a suitable alternative for men but have struggled to control male hormones with the same level of efficiency. Previous attempts to develop an effective and convenient male contraceptive have encountered problems over reliability and side-effects, such as mood swings and a lowered sex drive.

Like the female Pill, most testing for a male pill or injection has centred on using hormones to stop the production of key elements of the reproductive process. For the testing in China, a country which has invested heavily in reproductive technology because of its overpopulation problems, the men were given 500mg of testosterone undecanoate (TU) in tea seed oil. The injections resulted in a reduction of two regulatory brain chemicals, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinising hormone (LH) which in turn disrupted sperm production.

The scientists claim that there were none of the usual side-effects and say the process is reversible. Six months after coming off the injections, the men's sperm count had returned to healthy levels. Dr Gu said further testing would be needed to check how safe testosterone injections are.

Family planning campaigners have welcomed the news and said they hoped an injection would result in men taking a greater level of responsibility over contraception.

I agree that waiting until you are married to put in an IUD is BS. If I doctor won't trust my judgment then I won't trust that stupid mofo with my girly parts.

That kind of shit isn't cool. What really chaps my ass about doctors and the IUD is that many of them won't tell you the real reason they won't give unmarried and/or nulliparous women an IUD: their malpractice insurance won't let them. I'm like, "wtf you think it's better to hide behind moral objections, instead of more concrete, indisputable reasons?"

To that end:
Quote :

I went to planned parenthood first, trying to get an IUD. (warning: repeat story). The NP tried repeatedly to push the pill and patch, even after I explained to her the reasons that those weren't an option for me. Valid reasons: I have an AWFUL track record with taking daily pills regularly, and my schedule was far, far too hectic to help that. The patch wasn't an option because its effectiveness decreases when one's weight >175lbs.

Her answer to both of those reasons was "Well, use condoms too!", even though I explained the reason that I was looking into BC was to get away from condoms. She just wouldn't let it go, and I know now that she intentionally gave false information regarding IUDs (namely, that it's not even possible for a nulliparous woman to have one and that I shouldn't consider it an option).

If anyone is willing to drive to Chapel Hill, I know of a couple docs there that will insert an IUD no problems for nulliparous women. Or in general just tell the doc you want your tubes tied and they'll try to shove an IUD in there so fast instead it's just crazy. I had three doctors try to talk me into IUDs, so I had no idea finding a doc to insert one was such a problem.

um. me.

as far as the IUD, im sure i could get one if i tried hard enough. the ring is working out great so far.

besides im in conservative land texas. when i lived in kansas, my own OBGYN wouldn't prescribe my birth control bc it was against her religion, the nurse had to prescribe it instead.

also in discussing the options with my bf, he wasnt comfortable with the idea of an IUD yet. probably because he doesn't know much about them and it seems weird.

for some reason this makes me very angry! ughhhh!

i start a new pill this sunday. mircette. well it is the generic (Kariva). i have read good and bad things about it (like all BC pills and other forms of BC for that matter) so i don't know what to expect. i don't have any friends that have tried that kind before. she put me on it because it is supposed to help with bad cramps and regulating period (which is like, REALLY what i need - besides birth control, i mean )

and yes, remembering to take a pill at the exact same time everyday IS a little hard. i know men don't get it. i have 5 pills to take everyday now so that is the only reason i can remember. because i'm like "hey did i just take a handfull of medicine, no? ok" and i take them all at the same time. and now i have a daily pill organizer thing that breaks apart so i can just throw the day in my purse and that way no matter where i am i will have my medicine at the right time.

in other news i think the iron supplement is working. at least my yellow nasty bruises have been going away way faster than they were. i dunno i guess i will see in 2 months when i get my blood rechecked! go womanhood!

^^Would she prescribe to me since I need to the BC to help with the hormones and not for the controlling of birth (even though that is an added bonus)?

I've always wondered about people who are against birth control. If it's something they are against no matter what, or if they have exceptions for people who need it for medical reasons.

im pretty sure she was against it no matter what

and its not that i couldn't get it during my appointment, its just that she wouldn't prescribe it. when i asked for it for the upcoming year she said "well, i don't prescribe it, but the nurse will write it up for you"

there were heavy religious undertones. whatever, it was a decent doc otherwise and i still got what i needed during the 8 months i lived there.

AHAHA i just remembered this gem.. nothing will ever beat the uber religious doctor in peoria who i went to see about a severe sinus infection.

i didnt expect drugs going in, but i was looking for advice on relief or maybe drugs, i had been suffering for a week already.

he told me "well, the only thing you can do about these sorts of things... is lots of sleep, lots of rest, lots of fluids.... and lots of prayer"

err.... what?? i never went back. that was just too much for me to handle.

i just awkwardly looked away and thanked him for his time and left.

interestingly enough, i had just started my gardasil vaccination with this doc, and after that incident, i chose to finish my vaccination rounds elsewhere

just ordered some stuff on oldnavy.com. kinda sucks to order online but the NEVER have my sizes in what i want in the store!!

i got:

i also got it in gray. i already have one and i really like it - simple and it can easily go into fall with leggings/tights/boots etc.

i got these because they were on sale. REALLY wanted the white ones but white will only go so far. and i tried them on like a month ago in the store and liked them, but not enough to buy them for $30. now that they are $19 and i really want a pair of skinny jeans, i said what the hell.

and i got 3 of these boyfriend tees. they are 7.50. i tried on the small in the store and it was GIANT and they didn't have any extra smalls in my size. so i got heather gray, hot pink, and a teal colored one. they are comfy and go with whatever.

That reminds me that my current BC was $30 last year but they bumped it up to $35 this year on the same plan. So I guess nuva would be the same.

I met a guy this weekend who said, "You know, you're a redhead, which I normally don't go for, but I guess I'll make an exception this time." Haha. What a smooth talker. I gave him a good glaring.

And yeah, I'm thinking the lighter colors kind of wash out my skin.

Thanks for the feedback!

Can anyone describe to me what the pain of a cyst bursting feels like? Right now it feels like I'm being stabbed and I feel like I'm going to throw up. At first it felt like I was just having cramps but it's going on for a super long time and even when I get up and move around to try to ease the pain it makes it worse.

Could this be just a super awful cramp or could it be a cyst?
