could be a long shot, but wonder if we could pursue DT recruit Shawn Underwood from UNC as a result of John Blake resigning.
At this point we have no linemen committed yet, so Shawn would be a solid 3* local pick-up. 9/6/2010 12:58:00 PM |

OG/DT Ben Bradley is supposed to decide soon, most likely between State and West Virginia.
I would like to pick up Chris Manns. He may not be rated high, but he has all the measurables to make a good run stuffing DT at 6-2 305 lbs.
Hopefully we can also pick up OT Lamont Hardy. He's massive at 6-5 375 lbs.
Another linemen we have a good shot at is OG Stephen Grommer. I imagine he'd have to have a year or two in a college weight program though before he'd be able to contribute. Besides State, he has offers from Maryland, ECU, and WCU.

Any recruit that is seriously considering playing for UNC has got to be a damn moron that does not understand the implications of this on going NCAA investigation. Why else who someone potentially agree to play football at UNC versus a similar school knowing that UNC will likely have post season ban, less scholarships, and most of the coaching staff fired.

Quote : | " Published: 05:00 AM, Wed Sep 29, 2010 College football recruiting: N.C. State's hot start drawing interest from prospects
RELATED: How high can N.C. State go?
By Sammy Batten
A 4-0 start that's the best since 2002 may already be having subtle effects on N.C. State's recruiting efforts.
For example, there's been a higher-than-normal demand by prospects desiring to attend Saturday's Atlantic Coast Conference showdown with Virginia Tech at Carter-Finley Stadium.
Other recruits, such as the state's No. 1-ranked Stephone Anthony of Anson County, say they've taken notice of the Wolfpack's fast start.
Matt Carter, editor for The Wolfpacker website on the Rivals.com network, believes more will be known about the real impact of N.C. State's start after the Virginia Tech game.
"There will be a lot of recruits at that game,'' Carter said. "The demand to come see N.C. State games is increasing.''
Carter said at least three of the prospects in attendance Saturday will be making official recruiting visits. They are:
Dave Mann, a 6-foot-4, 230-pound defensive end from Lithonia, Ga. N.C. State was the first to offer Mann back in August, and he watched the Wolfpack knock off Georgia Tech last Saturday in Atlanta. Mann also has an offer from West Virginia.
Darrell Williams, a 6-5, 245-pound offensive tackle from Orlando, Fla. Williams has offers from Colorado State, Florida International, Florida State, Mississippi, N.C. State, South Carolina, South Florida and Central Florida. South Florida appears to have the edge presently, but the Wolfpack is getting his first official visit.
Frankie Williams, is a 5-10, 175-pound cornerback from Tampa, Fla. Williams has already taken one official visit in September to Purdue. He has other offers from Cincinnati, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Iowa State, Texas Tech, Towson, Vanderbilt, Washington State and Western Kentucky.
Help for the D-line The Wolfpack currently has seven oral commitments, but none of those play the positions Carter believes are the top recruiting priority for the Class of 2011.
"They need to restock the defensive line,'' Carter said.
N.C. State's current depth chart includes three seniors and a junior as the starters and backups at the end positions, and a senior, two juniors and a sophomore at the tackle spots.
Seven scholarship underclassmen are behind that group, including two who have seen action this season in true freshman A.J. Ferguson and redshirt freshman Darryl Cato-Bishop.
Wide receiver and linebacker are two other spots the Wolfpack may be seeking help in recruiting, said Carter.
Normally, N.C. State coach Tom O'Brien likes to have a larger part of his recruiting class in place by this time of year. But Carter believes having fewer commitments at this stage could work to the Wolfpack's advantage.
"This puts them in position to evaluate a lot of seniors who haven't been recruited heavily yet,'' Carter said. "A 4-0 start makes it easier to get in the front door with kids who may be having breakout seasons.
"They'll (N.C. State) be in better position to go after those guys than they were in early September.''
N.C. State will also have more scholarships to work with than first expected. Originally, the Wolfpack had about 15 scholarships available to offer this year. But two members of the Class of 2010 - defensive back Peter Singer and kicker Billy Bennett - did not enroll. Two other scholarship players have left the program in punter Chris Ward and linebacker William Beasley.
Two to watch Carter said two players who could be affected by N.C. State's start are Anthony and tight end Drew Owens from Ardrey Kell High in Charlotte.
Both have the Wolfpack listed among their favorite schools, but not at the top.
"I think both of them liked N.C. State, but weren't sure about the program,'' Carter said. "I think this (start) could help validate N.C. State in their eyes and make them feel more comfortable with the direction of the program.''

This is a video of Mustafa last year in HS. I can see ALOT of good things here about his decision making ability. He also shows off his great downhill running technique.
I just don't see much. Yeah he is fast and big. But I need to see more video of him in traffic for him to sell me at RB. How are his hands? He would be a SCARY return man. 9/29/2010 10:53:17 AM |

^ not trying to get into a pointless arg or anything, but watching those two videos i see one thing that does stand out about Tony and that's he's got more speed than Mustafa. I also saw him make "decisions" and they were usually the North-South kind that TOB loves. Tony just looked like he ran by guys as opposed to have to make them miss. The Mustafa video you provided though just shows though how special this kid is gonna be once he gets comfortable. I posted somewhere else that a move he made on Saturday was so quick, elusive and powerful that I don't remember the last time we had a running back who ran like that. 9/29/2010 11:20:42 AM |

armorfrsleep All American 7289 Posts user info edit post |
You really can't argue with Knight's productivity, he just ran for 300 yards on 15 carries last weekend but Rivals had a scathing evaluation where they said that basically he's not fast enough to play running back and he's not big enough to play fullback. When evaluating his speed it's important to keep in mind that he's playing against terrible competition in Massachusetts, while Greene was playing against pretty good competition in SC. 9/29/2010 12:58:56 PM |
izzykareem All American 2621 Posts user info edit post |
that's what i was wondering re: competition, however, its claimed that he's been tested many times in the 4.4 range.
i just read about it, the ISL, and while the league, overall, that Knight plays in isn't strong top to bottom, according to people familiar with Massachusetts football says that Lawrence Academy is one of the best teams in the state and this team already has 4 d1 prospects signed and could end up with 8.
1 to NCSU, 2 to Iowa, 1 to BC with maybe another to follow.
