Wow. that's pretty huge and out of left field. Just announced today. Actually MS's keynote was quite awesome. Don't know what happened between Sony and SquareEnix but I think this move benefits everyone and is good overall.

look guys, i can appreciate you trying to undercut this news for 360 owners but for the actual owners of the system it's a big fucking bit of news. That title was going to sell a lot of PS3s due to exclusivity, period.

If you think this is not good news for MS, and want to spin this as good news for Nintendo? haha...that getting this title is not a big deal you're crazy and in fanboy self denial. I know it hurts for you to admit that MS went out and got a big fish but man up and state it as it is.

As for the discs in a single player game who gives a shit if every 15 hours or so of story/gameplay comes with a new disc insert. Never bothered me for prior FF's on the PS so I don't know why that would turn anyone off particularly unless some poor soul has neither console and is hinging their choice solely on which system plays this game better? Doubtin that..

In 2010? Look, no doubt this great news for MS, but you have to look at this objectively. All I want is to play the game and if nothing else, this means more development time for a game that never looked anywhere close to finished to begin with. Beyond that, by the time it's released, the number of PS3/360 it sells won't matter as Nintendo is already running away with this gen.

But yes, great news for MS and all the 360 owners in this thread who said JRPGs are gay and that they don't care about Final Fantasy anymore (including you Kainen)

Well, you're right about one thing - no two things.

One, square enix is taking their sweet time with or without two console releases to think about - and its mainly because of content, localization, art, that type of thing. I bet you money their actual tech dudes are twiddling their thumbs bored with how long their asset creation and content blowhards take. Artsy fartsies. Could be wrong but just a hunch that it won't tack on too much in terms of dev time to the end.

Two, you're right - I don't care by and large about Final Fantasy any more unless they can prove me wrong. However, the are exceptions. Notably the remake of FFIV (my favorite RPG from console nostalgia) for the DS coming out soon and at least a mild interest in FFXIII.

I more was talking about the 360 owners and the impact to MS, that was a 'big splash' in terms of news. Probably more than any other this slow year and it is as joystiq put it 'a coup'. The funny thing about it, and I'm going to be completely intellectually honest here - if I get the game at all it'll likely be PS3 copy for yours truly. Just personal preference of course but for a [single player experience only] I'd rather have a quiet system playing it with slightly better audio separation through neo dts 6.1.

Install/Play games from hard drive to improve performance. This is really big, and probably bigger than the FF13 announcement. The drive does not spin up, load times much quicker - but you still need the disc in the tray for verification. I'd be interested to see how this works and how much improvements one stands to gain. I really like this idea though and I hope the other consoles follow suit. Well, PS3 anyway because Wii is retarded with storage.

Netflix/360 channel. Now netflix subscribers will be able to watch from a library of over 10K movie titles once it kicks off. You can invite other friends into a viewing 'party' if you will giving a community feel to it - which is weird to me but intriguing. Maybe like Mystery Science Theatre?

If only there was a way to install games without having the disc in, so that you can switch between games almost like you do with arcade games.

Of course, that would enable piracy, so that will never happen (at least from MS anyway)

^^^ these consoles, except the wii, have to be one a 7 or 10 year cycle this go around. I don't see a need for a new console anytime soon with all of these heavy updates coming, and the fact that the gaming system has reached a potential to somewhat of a plateau, but not literally.
