Quote :
"Juston Burris, Broughton

There is no better illustration of how important big plays can be than Broughton's 21-20 victory over Garner.

Juston Burris, an N.C. State recruit, caught an 81-yard touchdown pass, ran through the Trojans' special team's coverage on a 75-yard punt return and turned a short hitch pass into a 73-yard game-winning touchdown reception.

In a game against Fayetteville Britt, which is ranked among the best teams in the state, Burris pulled in a 66-yard scoring reception and showed his athletic ability on a 45-yard pass interception return.

He is averaging 26.4 yards per catch.

Running back Chris Mangus gives the Caps tremendous quick-strike potential. Mangus has scored on runs of 57, 50, 58, 41 and 67 yards this season.

Burris' scoring plays of 40 yards or more

Cary, 53-26 (L): None.

Garner, 21-20: 81-yard pass reception, 75-yard punt return, 73-yard pass reception.

Athens Drive, 23-21: None.

Fayetteville Sanford, 30-27: None.

Fayetteville Britt, 30-40 (L): 66-yard pass reception, 45-yard interception return.

Millbrook, 52-26: None."

I don't really care who you are playing unless it is the school for the blind/deaf or a bunch of five year olds, gettting 300 yds on 15 carries is just silly good. TOB did well with all these "slow" kids out of the northeast before so I have no problems with him bringing them down to Raleigh.

check out this video

http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/high-school/tag?name=anthony-knight

its an interview of tony after the game with his MAMMOTH OL. Dude has a righteous Boston accent. can't wait to hear postgame interviews with this kid.

Few facts; his cousin was Derrick Knight who also supposedly had no business in D1 football but became one of BC's most prolific rushers.

on speed, i don't know what you guys are looking at, he's going right by kids. However, true, Milton academy is not a powerhouse team.

dude is also 6'1, 225. this was Andre Brown's measureables when he left here. I'd take a faster AB anyday

It pretty much is though, it's all the kids who were too slow and clumsy to play hockey at a reasonable level.

I'm not saying this kid is gonna suck, just don't expect him to come here and blow everyone away because of his inflated HS stats...plenty of kids rush for a billion yards in high school and never pan out in college.

my problem with Knight's video isn't his speed - which looks fine, hard to tell from the competition but if I had to guess I'd say it's ~4.6 which is enough for college - it's that he doesn't really look like a natural RB when he runs. I don't see a lot of cuts or lowering of the shoulder, he's just running around short white kids. Plus he carries the ball like DeShaun Foster. Of/c you could say the same thing about Dean Haynes and TOB seems to be fine with that.

Also even if he doesnt work out at RB there are so many positions a guy with his size could play. LB, S, DE, WR, maybe TE, etc

NCAA investigation may be taking its toll.

Drew Owens who had a visit scheduled for UNC is now not listing them as a visit date but has us now as one of his 3 official visits so far. It's saying 10/08 on yahoo and we are his first visit.

This could turn out to be a huge weekend for NC State as far as national recognition, proving themselves, and especially in recruiting.

Really hoping the LBs come out fired up and bring the heat tomorrow with S. Anthony in attendance, would love to land the #1 player in the state. Also a lot of juniors going to be in attendance, esp. along the OL, so hoping that we put together a great game and great visit for all these guys. Recruiting could definitely use a good shot in the arm to kick things off, and nothing gets the job done like winning.

this guy looks like "Professor Pain"

i was gonna add in another thread that, sometimes losing a huge game like the VT game is sometimes positive for recruiting because it allows the coaches to say: "see, that's why we need you". That's how Mack Brown did it after going 2-20 his first two years.

naw, you good. I was hyped about those guys. Its good to get a jump on Marshall though. I think if Mustafa progresses well and we get some OL commits and our OL depth grows we could have a really good shot at him. A 5* RB is big time.

We need big time DL recruits. We also need to get faster in the secondary. Bring back Amato as an assistant so we can get NFL-caliber recruits again.

Skoaian^ you know i was talking to a bud of mine about this very thing, how I thought O'brien should hire Amato, strictly as a recruiter for the FL, TX, LA region. I bet he could help us big time in that area...but would he be okay with being second fiddle to O'brien and taking orders from someone else...?

But yea his recruiting skills would be an asset.

Amato fell off pretty significantly as a recruiter his last couple of seasons at FSU, y'all need to stop living in the past.

it's pretty ridiculous to think that we would ask amato back in any role anyways. better to just cut ties and move on

has a former head coach ever come back to a BCS school as an assistant?

Happens all the time, actually. Mike O'Cain, Karl Torbush, and Al Groh immediately come to mind.

Well, bring back doc holliday, then. TOB has done good squeezing out good play from who he has, but having NFL-level players combined with good coaching substantially increases your chances of turning the corner.

The TOB hypothesis was that he would do here better than he did at BC because he could recruit better with lower academic standards.

yeah, losing Doc Holliday was probably the single event that guaranteed Amato's pink slip.

I doubt we get him back from WVU unless its as a head coach.

^^ So far he actually has recruited better. The only 5* recruit he pulled in during his 10 years at BC was Brian Toal. Every now and then he'd get one, sometimes two 4* recruits a year.

Here's all the 4 and 5 star players TOB has gotten in his 2008-10 classes (07 was more Amato's class than his).

2010
5* Rob Crisp
4* David Amerson
4* Tyson Chandler
4* Anthony Creecy
4* Mustafa Greene

2009
4* Asa Watson
4* Jarvis Byrd
4* Denzelle Good (I know he's gone, but whatever)

2008
4* Mike Glennon
4* Terrell Manning
4* R.J. Mattes
4* Brandon Barnes
4* Sam Jones (holdover from the 07 class)
4* Kyle Linney (gone)

And fwiw
2007 (Amato's class, but TOB had to re-convince these guys to stay on)
4* Jay Smith
4* Antoine Holmes

^ barnes was actually a 5* but was "demoted" because his senior year he mostly played safety and not running back for which he was ranked so high. I remember EagleInATL being pissed that TOB picked up a 5* in his first class and "only had one the whole time he was at BC"

"Recruiting has definitely picked up for NC State in the last couple of weeks. Although we cannot reveal names yet, we can say that there are several recruits committed to other schools that have reached out to NC State after the Pack’s hot start.

And to follow up on a couple of Oak Ridge (N.C.) Military Academy players that are committed to other schools, both linebacker/defensive end Chris McCain and wide receiver Nigel King remain solid with California and Maryland respectively. A source told us this week that McCain is good with Cal so long as Cal wants him, but King does have NC State on his short list of schools to consider if there is a change at Maryland.

yeah, saw some people in some thread a week or so ago (maybe this one) talking about how they wouldn't want any decommitts from unc to commit to state. fuk that noise, i think it'd be awesome to pick-up a few that jump from the unc ship. but is that likely to happen?

Here are two players that have an official visit scheduled for the BC game:

TE Drew Owens (it would be great to get him)
WR Stanton Seckinger (very tall receiver at 6'5")

Anyone know of any other players visiting for the BC game?

this from a snippet on google from 3 days ago:

"TE Drew Owens of Charlotte tells the BigSpur.com he will visit NC State this.."

I assume that means "this weekend".

nevermind, i saw this pic from just now on IC from today at the game:

the other dude is 5* travis hughes
