I have some nice old books, some of them passed down from my grandparents. Now and then, I'll come across a volume with uncut pages. What's the best way to cut the uncut pages of a good book? (The point of a book is to be read; it's wrong to leave them sitting forever on a shelf)

Tally of the suckiest summer humanly possible:

away from humandrive
trapped in the bumfuck of Japan
counselor for worst children ever
NOT being paid
other interns are biggest clique bitches possible
took over a month to get my skateboard, finally got it and they shipped the wrong one

and finally...

just found out my mom has cancer!

Really, can it get anymore wonderful?

Maybe if I just give up on life it would.

^^^My mom is a breast cancer survivor of 15 years now, so I know how it is to have to deal with something like that. You have to stay positive for her.

well he has a degree in Aerospace engineering. His job in textiles is startig to die out because of slow business, and on the last pay day there wasn't any money left to pay him.

He could get a job almost anywhere around here doing almost any type of engineering, he is smart enough to do it. But he's being a lazy bum and does nothing but sit around the house all day and bitch about how we can't afford things anymore.

He just came in here and said that he doesn't know how he's gonna pay for my school, EVEN THOUGH my grandparents have put quite a lot of money back for me in a college fund and he hasn't had to pay a dime for anything yet.

I swear to God next time I hear him say that he can't afford something I'm gonna snap...I mean if it was me in the same position I would have never heard the end of it

I mean I know I'm 19 and I should be able to handle this. But still parents shouldn't put this type of stress on their kids. I mean we used to be well to do, but uggg it's just so frustrating! I mean no one can talk to him cause he drinks all the time and just snaps at the worst possible moments. I'm almost dreading him going to the beach with us, because I have a feeling this topic is going to come up(it was a family business) and he will be drunk and everyone is gonna end up in tear.

I mean my grandfather owns the business, and both my uncle and my dad worked for him. My uncle is doing fine because he went out and got another job. My dad, nothing!

He hasn't been laid off...and he won't get laid off. Basically it's like he still works there, there just isn't any money being brought in to pay with, just enough to pay the bills. My grandfather is pissed off at my dad for not maning up and getting another job.

Well, consider that he's been working his fingers to the bone to provide for you for 19 years. I'm sure he worked some before that as well. He deserves some time to not have to work.

I had a not so similar incident right before I turned 16. My Dad went into the hospital one night and could have died. He spent 10 days in a hospital bed, and when he came home and tried to go back to wrk, he majorly pulled some muscles in his back. He was ordered to bedrest for 6 weeks with only a little bit of light duty work around the house. I went a couple days after my 16th birthday and got a job everyday after school until 10pm and worked some weekend hours too to help my family pay the bills and make ends meet.

Now, my Dad wanted to work and couldn't-yours can and don't want to. I'm not suggesting that you go do the same thing-but be more concerned about him! He's the only Daddy you get!

Well I am concerned about him. I really think he's starting to get depressed about it. But he won't listen to us. He's not gonna get better sitting around the house doing nothing but sleeping and drinking beer.

I have a job and I work my ass off, I'm also going to summer school. Right now we are living off of my mom's salary, and she is a teacher's assistant.

But honestly since I've been home, they haven't flipped the bill for anything except my cell phone plan, and food.

But if he is gonna claim me as a dependent on taxes, he should actually be able to support me.
Trust me I've already tried to move out, but they threatened to cut me off for good if I did.

This summer has gone from bad to worse

Girl! It's about time for his midlife crisis! It's like menopause-only, manlier.

^^^^And very FEW people retire at 45. It's not time for him to retire. He really would go stir crazy and drive the rest of the family nuts!

I hope things get better for you. Thankfully, I've never had to deal with drinking issues or not WANTING to work. I'd probably feel like you do. However, I pay for EVERYTHING (house, bills, car, cell phone, college loans, credit card) of mine (But I also have 2 jobs-3 at times)-so if Dad don't want to work, he's only hurting himself and Mom-or vice versa.
