dear god,

i'm running out of pop corn.

Marvin STILL wants to play.
UNC NCAA Appeal Denied
Blake multiple transactions WHILE still coaching?

for 96:

Quote :
""
Suspended UNC defensive tackle Marvin Austin still wants to play for the Tar Heels, his lawyer said Thursday.

But it appears that Austin will face significant hurdles with the NCAA to regain his eligibility.

Christopher Lyons, Austin's Miami-based lawyer, said the NCAA has asked Austin about two trips to California, three trips to Florida and "some trips" to Austin's hometown of Washington, D.C.

The NCAA is investigating impermissible benefits provided by sports agents to Tar Heels football players. Austin also has testified in N.C. Secretary of State Elaine Marshall's investigation of possible violations by agents of the state's Uniform Athlete Agent Act.

Austin has spoken withGary Wichard, the sports agent whose friendship and financial transactions with recently resigned former North Carolina associate head coach John Blake have drawn the attention of the NCAA.

NFL Players Association rules prevent agents from talking with college players before the end of their junior seasons.

Lyons said there has been contact between Wichard and Austin, but he declined to discuss when the interactions took place or other details.

"The specifics of when, how often, the time frame, again, that information is part of the NCAA and the Secretary of State investigation. So I cannot get into those details with you," Lyons said. "But I can confirm they spoke."

Lyons participated in a teleconference with reporters Thursday to address Austin's involvement in two trips in 2009 to California that were the subject of a Yahoo Sports report.

Austin traveled to Thousand Oaks, Calif., to train at Proactive Sports Performance, where Wichard's clients train for the NFL draft. Lyons said the round-trip flights were paid for by Todd Amis, an assistant coach at Ballou High, which Austin attended in Washington, D.C.

Lyons said it's Austin's understanding that former Tar Heel teammate Kentwan Balmer, a Wichard client who now plays for the NFL's Seattle Seahawks, paid for the lodging, training and other expenses.

Those payments could be considered an extra benefit by the NCAA.

"Obviously he's very disappointed he's not able to be out there on the field battling with his teammates," Lyons said. "And he's trying to be positive and hopeful that he can return to the field. That's about all I can tell you." ""

not sure if this has been posted yet, but the NCAA is back on campus...

Quote :
"CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The NCAA returned to North Carolina's campus this week to take part in the school-led investigation into possible academic violations.

School spokesman Steve Kirschner said Friday an investigator returned to campus Wednesday and Thursday. The student judicial system is handling most of the academic issues, though athletic director Dick Baddour has said some involve both the school and NCAA.

Also, the NCAA on Friday denied the school's appeal of the length of suspensions for safety Deunta Williams and cornerback Kendric Burney.

Williams was originally suspended for four games and Burney was suspended for six by the NCAA on Sept. 22.

"I am disappointed for Deunta and Kendric, but I respect the NCAA's decision," North Carolina athletic director Dick Baddour said. "I appreciate the committee allowing us the opportunity to present their case.""

Why do you guys care so much about this. They aren't our rivals. They haven't beaten us in 3 years. VT, Clemson, and GT are our rivals.

not to mention this...
why would someone that is an assistant coach at UNC need a loan in the first place?

why not go to a bank and get a loan?

In addition, by being employed and being a runner or paid by an agent...doesnt that make UNC in trouble for essentially employing an agent?

Didn't he have like a 400K salary and receive a 1.1 million buyout when he left Oklahoma? Why would someone who just got that money need a 45k loan?

I met a guy who was a big Maryland fan and his hatred for UNC was on par with mine. My brother in law is an FSU grad and he hates UNC more than any team in the ACC beside Miami. Guy I work with is GT grad, barely knows jack squat about sports, said UNC is his least favorite school of all the ACC schools. The hate is universal due to the attitudes of the people that attend that shit bag university. Bunch of fair weather, elitist ass holes.

Oh yeah when I lived in Kansas, all the KU fans hate UNC like they are a rival, but that is due to the Roy thing although it was fun trashing UNC with some non-ACC folks.

Adam and Joe are roasting this whole lawyer-loans bullshit. charles robinson says he's got triple-sourced documentation that the lawyers are lying. What's even funnier is they referenced a forum entry on IC for added shits and giggles, mostly shits.

synrgysports has an interesting interview that details how compliance works and the whole way its a big mess http://twithear.com/1ir

also, UNC fans level of douchebagness knows no bounds: apparently they have created a joe giglio twitter account (in his name) and have been dis-tweeting (disinformation).

Potential good news: The word I got today is that they've totalled the gifts marvin austin received at $36,000.

Also, quinn accepted an expensive watch ($$$) and is possibly done as well.

A: Well, they demanded that anyone having a connection to UNC recluse themselves. I think as an opponent of Davis, Mr Dee should recluse himself. That goes for anyone that has a past relationship with North Carolina State also. JP Glio comes to mind. They need to put a different reporter on the story because JP has lost his credibility."

I want Russell Wilson to know we as a nation place the blame squarely on his shoulders for this investigation not wrapping up quickly enough to prevent UNC from beating ECU this weekend.

I know he has a lot going on but he's been given great supporting investigators and it's just inexcusable that he can't singlehandedly bring this house of cards down around UNC.

Now ESPN is getting in on this

Source: Ex-UNC coach lobbied for agent

Former University of North Carolina associate head coach John Blake called Alabama defensive lineman Marcell Dareus this summer and lobbied for him to consider employing agent Gary Wichard, an Alabama source confirmed Sunday.

Dareus reported the information to the NCAA when it interviewed him during its investigation into violations of improper benefits received by Dareus and players at several other schools, including North Carolina.

Blake resigned his coaching position with the Tar Heels last month in the wake of the NCAA investigation, which expanded to include his relationship with Wichard. The relationship between Dareus and Blake dates to when Blake recruited Dareus out of Birmingham to come to North Carolina.

Dareus, the NCAA determined, received $1,787 in airfare, hotel, transportation and meals to attend a party last spring in Miami Beach. He paid that amount to charity and the NCAA suspended him for the first two games of the season.

The NCAA expanded its investigation of Blake, a former employee of Wichard, and his financial relationship with the agent. He resigned from the university shortly thereafter. Yahoo! Sports has reported that Wichard's ties with Blake are so deep that the agent's firm issued Blake a credit card. Blake's attorneys said their client has received loans from Wichard but that he never steered players to the agent in return."

^ woah that really blows the doors off the previous theory that the number of players that Blake coached who ended up signing with Wichard was soooo small.

And marvin austin is beginning to look more and more like the runner's assistant in all of this. wowww!

At what point does the NCAA say, "there is no way the school didn't know about this?"
In the USC case they just said that if they didn't they should have. I believe we are far beyond that.

keep in mind that it took the NCAA 5 years from initial inquiry to conclusion in that case too so we could be waiting a while

unc has set a precedent for violations. Even usc was limited to one rogue player.

I don't care if unc beats us for 100 years, they are tainted and the barry bonds of college football. fuck who gets "cleared" etc, that whole program is shit. being "cleared" does not absolve you from being a party to the second most corrupt institution in college football history.
