I feel like I have a different standard of what makes a search successful or unsuccessful than most of the internet or something. People are all in a frenzy over how awesome Yow is because this search has been so secret, and maybe that's less messy or whatever, but it's obvious at this point that we aren't going to end up with anyone that Fowler couldn't have gotten. And if you're operating at Fowler levels of success, I don't know how it can be anything but an abject failure.

Well here's what we know: Everyone besides Calipari, Smart, Stevens, Calhoun, Marshall, and Grant that we want to contact has probably been contacted. None of them has taken the job by now, so it's safe to say they're not going to. Which means that someone out of that bunch is the best option we have left. Calipari, Stevens, and Calhoun definitely aren't coming. Grant just got to Alabama a couple years ago and our job isn't that big a step up, so he's probably out. Which most likely leaves Smart as the best possible option we have right now. I wouldn't be upset with Smart, but go any lower on the coaching totem pole and we really aren't making a great hire relative to what we have to offer in terms of money, facilities, recruiting base, etc. At this point it's got to be Smart or this coaching search is going to be looked back on as a failure.
