I've been saying for years, wait till he has a full team in year 5 and he will be able to do better against the other coaches who were always playing with 5 classes. Its the Srs and RS Srs that pull you through late in the game.
I doubt anyone will be big enough to admit I was the only one right about the trajectory our program has been on. I'm talking back as early as year 2 and 3. 9/23/2017 7:05:46 PM |

Quote : | "I really like Doeren.
1) He's young but not a hotshot guy who will constantly be rumored for bigger jobs. We need the consistency.
2) His schemes work. Both sides of the ball. We can run. We can pass. We can stop the run. We can get after the QB. The secondary could use a little work at times but it's no longer a joke.
3) He recruits pretty well. You gotta understand our program had ZERO recruiting presence under TOB. We were landing almost straight 2* prospects and we had ZERO momentum. Then we go 0-11. That certainly didn't help either. A few more solid seasons and one good one and who knows how much of an uptick we could get in recruiting?
If we could ever return to the level of Amato recruiting and TOB discipline we'd be a great team. I think Doeren is a notch below Amato in recruiting and a notch below TOB in discipline. But I think his schemes are better than both. And he's not a total Zero in discipline like Amato or a total Zero like TOB in recruiting. In fact, far from it. Both are relatively strong in my opinion.
I don't think you can just measure him based on his overall record when three of the teams are Clemson, FSU, and Louisville who are REALLY good right now.
I just think we should give him another couple of years to see how he does with upperclassmen 4* recruits. I really like his offensive system.
If Finley can throw for 400 yards every week imagine what RW, Rivers, or Glennon could have done?" |

Quote : | "We definitely don't have the talent to compete on either side of the ball next year.
Our offense was as one dimensional as you can get, and wasn't even that effective in that dimension. Take away an NFL signal caller and our offense was barely D1 quality this year. Next year it will be terrible unless Stocker is a Greek God.
A good defensive line is not enough to overcome a brand new secondary and barely D1 talent at LB.
Our special teams were also abysmal this year and given that TOB hasn't recruited enough talent to even play on starting units, I have to imagine our depth will be terrible as well.
On the other hand, this looks like a very strong hire. He's young so if he's successful we could have a good one on our hands for the next two decades. He has a great track record so far, and given how down the conference is right now we can definitely turn this program around in a few years time if he shows enough promise on the field to get us back in the recruiting mix. Plus we've got guys starting to understand the system and recruiting would take a big step back. You fire guys when the program is moving in the wrong direction.
It's actually quite impressive to field a team that's borderline top 25 without a good qb or many skill players.
Right now we are paying for giving TOB those last 2 years instead of firing him while the wheels were falling off the program. I don't wanna go through another brutal rebuild. Things are really looking up this year and those two Jacoby years looked promising to me considering we had very little talent around him.
With a good qb, some depth and experience, and doeren learning in game coaching this looks like a top 25 program to me.
You aren't gonna be able to judge us on just wins/losses for a few years playing in a division with clemson, fsu, and louisville. It doesn't help that UNC was able to build a program by cheating and didn't really get hit with sanctions to penalize them. That's the main reason we are struggling as its tough for us both to be good at the same time while the SEC and Clemson cherry pick our state as well for 4 and 5* guys.
A rising tide lifts all boats. The ACC is stronger than its been in my entire lifetime and we are just starting to benefit from that. We've got a chance to build a Nationally competitive program so I don't understand why we would blow it up right now for a rebuild while things are still clearly moving in the right direction." |

First 2-0 start since 2006, wow.
I knew we always had our dreams dashed early every year but just wow.... like we can't even get the season underway once in 11 years
I think the worst one had to be 2003 when we were #9 in the nation getting ready to face Ohio State with a legit shot to win and move into the top 5... and we got crushed by wake forest the first game instead lol

right, but execution wasn't perfect. in which case...just boot it outta the endzone if you're able.
^i'm not ready to say he's above average. but i'd say he's average. and it's an upgrade over last year. even if he sucks, we're outta options this year. so there's little to "address" at this point. we've got a supposedly very good kicker recruit coming next year. that's a good thing.

i like wise fine, but to be totally fair...bambard drilled a 48 yarder last year too.

Should just show had little faith Doeren has in our kick coverage and for Bambard to consistently kick it out of the endzone.
I mean I understand the logic, take away the game-changing play potential, but you're really putting pressure on your D, esp. when your offense hits 2 straight 3-and-outs in the 3rd.
I bet most of us wish we opened the season by kicking a little sky kick and letting USC start at the 45. 10/2/2017 8:44:06 AM |
