I wonder why it is that when players visit here they just say they "had a great time" as opposed to when players visit UNCheat they immediately put them at the top of their list. Why anyone would want to go that school is absurd, especially after the shit show they've put on this year with the scandal going on. 11/16/2010 6:31:42 PM |

So far it looks like the majority of our recruits haven't been evaluated, don't have stars, and therefore don't positively contribute to our class rankings. Therefore, they're all gonna suck. 11/17/2010 11:32:00 AM |

From today's N&O:
Quote : | "N.C. State's 2011 recruiting has been hurt by the program's struggles before 2010 under coach Tom O'Brien, analysts say. The Wolfpack posted losing records in 2007, 2008 and 2009 under O'Brien, and there was an outside perception that O'Brien needed to win in 2010 to keep his job.
That's no longer an issue with N.C. State a pair of regular-season wins away from securing a spot in the ACC championship game. But just 10 players have committed verbally to the Wolfpack, and none of them are rated above three stars on the five-star scales posted by Rivals.com and Scout.com.
N.C. State might not see the effects of its on-field success until the 2012 recruiting class, because so many top recruits have committed already.
O'Brien doesn't sound concerned, however. He never has put much stock in recruiting rankings.
Because N.C. State has a small senior class this season, O'Brien said he doesn't expect to sign a large class anyway in 2011. He projects a class of about 16 signees.
"I think we're doing fine," O'Brien said. "We went slow this year because of numbers that we started out with."" |
In the class of 2008, we signed 12 recruits between November and February. There are still a lot of big names on the board. I think we'll be fine.11/19/2010 11:30:37 AM |

It would seem that some linebackers would take note of our lb play this season w/ tenuta.
Commentator at the beginning of the UNC game claimed that the Wolfpack arguably has the best combo of linebackers in the country w/ Irving, Manning, and Cole. 11/23/2010 2:37:32 PM |

^ totally agree. However I think most kids want to see sustainable success. Despite UNC paying players and getting side-benefits for them, they did have two winning seasons in a row and a few of the talking-heads mentioned them as dark horse national title contenders. As preposterous as all that was it definitely got into recruits heads.
So I think we may not see a lot of the benefits this year in our recruiting class, but if we start out doing well next year I think next year's class could be unprecedented or at least up there with some of our best classes.
You never know as well because signing day is a month after all the bowl games, and if we could win some more and go to a good bowl, and dare i say Orange Bowl, and beat somebody worth a damn, TOB may pull a Feb surprise and close on a lot of undecided kids who would have NEVER looked at us before. 11/23/2010 2:49:45 PM |

I've heard that he looks good and is one of the hardest hitters on the defense. No one will be able to take over for Nate, but if Manning and Cole continue to improve, then I think we'll be ok with Carter or whoever the third starting LB is. 11/24/2010 10:46:22 AM |

Sterling Lucas and Dwayne Maddox will be returning seniors. I know Carter started as a true freshman at Syracuse and was all-conference, but our LB depth is pretty deep. I'm sure he'll get rotated in some on defense - probably will start on special teams. 11/24/2010 11:06:02 AM |

didnt Drew Owens postpone his announcement?
also, at the UNC game we had the following recruits there from NC State’s perspective linebacker/defensive end Ben Councell from A.C. Reynolds High in Asheville, N.C., Councell is best described as a soft Notre Dame verbal commitment. He is interested in both NC State and UNC.
Junior receiver Jody Fuller from Sun Valley High in Monroe, defensive tackle K’Hadree Hooker from South Lenoir High in Deep Run and offensive lineman D.J. Reader from Grimsley High in Greensboro, Defensive end Gimel President from Wando High in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

Quote : | "Recruiting: Top-tier ACC teams interested in Terry Sanford's McDonald
ACC Football and Recruiting by Sammy Batten
Sammy Batten
Previously unheralded players emerge as major-college prospects after enjoying breakout senior seasons almost every year. Terry Sanford High's Dante McDonald has been one of those players in 2010.
After a senior season in which he ranked second among Cumberland County rushers with 1,974 yards, McDonald has caught the eye of recruiters at N.C. State and Virginia Tech.
Although neither school has offered a scholarship, the Hokies have invited McDonald for an official visit Dec. 10.
Terry Sanford coach Wayne Inman said Virginia Tech defensive line coach Charley Wiles dropped by the school during the regular season. Inman gave Wiles a highlight video that featured McDonald.
"About three weeks later Charley called me up and said (head) Coach (Frank) Beamer had looked at the video,'' Inman said. "Beamer told Charley, 'We need to figure out a way to get that kid in our program.'
"They've got a lot of commitments out there now, so I guess they sort of have to figure out a way to let one go to take Dante. They have to figure out how to get him in there.''
Inman calls McDonald "a superior athlete'' who could play any number of positions at the college level.
McDonald began his prep career at Westover High, where he played for the junior varsity before transferring to Terry Sanford. He worked as a quarterback for the Bulldogs JV team as a sophomore before earning a starting job on the varsity last season at wide receiver.
The 6-foot, 195-pounder made 33 catches for 423 yards and three touchdowns as a junior before shifting to quarterback to start the 2010 season. But an injury to Terry Sanford's starting tailback led Inman to move McDonald there in the Week Four.
McDonald averaged 164.5 yards rushing in 12 games and scored 25 touchdowns. He also caught 15 passes for 203 yards and three scores, and completed 14 of 33 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown.
"He could play free safety or he could play quarterback," Inman said. "It would take him some time to develop as a quarterback at the next level, but he could do it. Or he could play wide receiver or running back. He's that good.''
N.C. State, which has 10 commitments, is also expected to bring McDonald in for an official visit.
Two eye Wolfpack
A pair of national prospects have N.C. State on their short list of potential schools, including North Carolina's No. 1-ranked player.
Linebacker Stephone Anthony, who was No. 1 in The Fayetteville Observer's preseason rankings of the state's Top 50 college prospects, has set dates for four of his five official visits.
Anthony will travel to Gainesville, Fla., on the first weekend of January to visit Florida. He'll then trek to Clemson on Jan. 15, to Virginia Tech on Jan. 23 and to N.C. State on Jan. 30. Georgia, LSU and North Carolina are possibilities to get Anthony's final visit.
Offensive tackle Donovan Smith from Owings Mills, Md., took an official visit to N.C. State on Nov. 12 and is listing the Wolfpack among his top teams. The 6-5, 270-pounder has already taken visits to Penn State and Michigan State, and is scheduled to travel to UCLA on Dec. 3. Maryland and Rutgers are also in the picture with Donovan." |

He hopes to postpone his decision until at least Dec. 12 - the day after the Group AAA Division 6 state championship."

stars don't mean everything but they usually mean SOMETHING. a 4 star player isn't necessarily better than a 2 or 3 star player, but then again the odds are that 4 star player will have a better college career than that 2 or 3 star player.
typically, the reason guys that are 2 or 3 star players coming out of high school and end up doing big things have one or more of the following qualities: 1) They were late bloomers (maybe didn't do a ton till their senior year of high school) 2) They didn't play for a good/well known program 3) They didn't go to many/any combines OR just had an off day at combines 4) They don't have that NFL ideal size/speed
It's not possible for them to see every high school player, so they tend to focus on the ones that gets lots of college attention early and the ones that do well at combines. I'm sure I don't have to tell you guys this. 11/30/2010 5:35:16 PM |

Doesn't really seem like anyone has been doing that with football, maybe a bit with 2 star guys but that's pretty understandable. Do you expect everyone to be stoked about having the 90th ranked recruiting class? Sure maybe some of these guys will turn out to be really good players for us, but this is a poor recruiting class even by the relatively modest standards of the TOB era. It just seems like you're coming up with every excuse/rationalization in the book to make yourself feel better about the fact that this is a down year for us recruiting-wise.
