instead of working to regulate padding in chit chat

why not impose a memory cap?

the oldest thread gets deleted when the cap gets hit.

Why not just do automatic pruning of any thread that hasn't been viewed for three months? In every forum, no less.

well this way you wouldn't have to worry about size of threads, size of posts, etc. and i'd only really recommend it for chit chat anyways since nobody really gives a fuck (and i'm sure it's the biggest)

pruning would, i'm sure, remain fine for quite some time for other message boards
