I hear a lot of great poker stories, as a matter of fact, I posted one awhile back about quad aces losing to a royal flush. I thought it might be neat to have a thread dedicated to online and real-life poker feats. Here's a few recent ones (I eliminated some unimportant details):

Hello jrbrooks,

Basically here I made about $75 when a guy hit trips, another guy hit a lower straight, and I had the nut straight. It was really sweet until the 3rd diamond came.... I was really hoping nobody had runner-runnered me for a flush. Either way I had no intention of laying it down.

I have flopped quads twice this week and also folded 2 hands that would have flopped quads. It's been a pretty good week, for sure.

Oh yeah, here's the story about the royal flush:

http://thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=196545

And one last tidbit from the WSOP going on now:

From cardplayer.com: If you hang around the tournament area, you'll hear plenty of bad-beat stories. Let's face it, anytime you're knocked out of the World Series of Poker, it feels like a bad beat regardless of the cards. But during Monday's action, Luke Gallagher of San Francisco, California, experienced the mother of all bad beats.

Gallagher limped in with pocket fives in a multiway pot, and managed to keep his cool as the flop came 7-5-5 . He checked his quads, there were a few other checks, and a player in late position moved all in with pocket nines, thinking his overpair was good. When Gallagher called and turned over his quads, the other player started gathering his things to leave the table ... only to see the turn and river come 9-9.

Gallagher flopped quad fives against a pair, and lost.

Last time I played I got 4 kings followed by 2 full houses. Then I sucked the rest of the night.
Not too outlandish, but a good little streak.

I've got a good one. I was dealt A-K, and the flop came up 2-6-K. I made a pretty substantial bet, but the next guy raised it back a lot. I thought for a minute. Judging from the preflop bets and my hand, I thought it was unlikely that he had pocket aces or kings, and I don't think he would've stayed in with a 2-6, 2-K, or 6-K. I knew my ace would be the better kicker, and it would be impossible for someone to have a better pair. So I just had to hope he didn't have pocket 2's or 6's. I thought I'd have the better hand, so I'd better end this before more cards came out. I went all in. He called. Sure enough, he had pocket twos. The turn came a six, giving him a full house. I needed a king or another six. The river brought me a king, giving me the victory with a better full house!

im pretty much always up for it

the mba crowd plays pretty much weekly (mostly over on leesville rd but weve had a couple games at my place)

theres a bigger holdem tourney tonight, it happens every other friday but they only play for $20 and pretend like theyre goddamned vegas pros and take 10 mins to bet because they dont know what the hell theyre doing - suffice to say - i played once and owned them all and decided it was too boring to go back until they have the $1k pot game later this summer

and my friends and i play a throughly drunken dealers choice game every couple of weeks, although with dempsey in jersey its not nearly as drunken

ill come knock on the door if i hear of a game happening

__________________________________________________________________________________
oh and while we're sharing the bad beats i took it in the bum twice at one table in the vegas - had a MADE boat (pretty strong, 9s over and Js over) after 5 cards both times in 7 card stud and raising the max every chance i got and both times people stayed in the pot with me and made a higher boat on the LAST card (they were happy as hell to tell me they thought they were done until they caught it) - there are no numbers high enough to describe that bs happening once much less twice in one night, those two hands pretty much took me from around $300 up to right back to even

I was playing with my friends once and I was pretty short stacked holding a 3/4 in a blind position. The flop comes 3/3/4, with a 3/4 of clubs, giving me a pretty solid boat. I went all in, one guy folds, the other guy calls, asking someone if he should play his hand. When we turn the cards over he's holding a 6/7 clubs. Sure enough, the turn comes and it's a 5 clubs, giving him the straight flush. Needless to say, I was extremely pissed.

6 hand poker if I remember correct....pre flop I'm big blind. Two folds, 3 calls. I limp with like with a 5/8 off suit. On the flop, mothing comes cept giving me a runner runner straight draw(with a 3/2 same suit as my 5). Check around. Turn comes 6 of my suit. Someone bets....it gets round to me again, I call. Everyone still in. River is the 4 of my suit. I check. All in....all in, goes all in over the top of those two. I'm like...um call. Two flushes and trips beat by my straight flush.

OK, I lied, it wasn't for free. I initially signed up with $50, played for a few days, and lost it. After losing my $50 I told myself "no more internet gambling" ever. Well, 3 months later I got an email from Party Poker with them asking me to come back. They said they deposited $20 in my account, but I had to play 50 raked hands to get it (or to be able to withdraw it). In other words, i couldn't just go withdraw the money without ever playing. So of course I decided to play, and 3 months later I am up over a grand.

Actually I did take $700 of it out one time. I told myself that at the very leat, I was gonna come out $700 ahead. Then, they offered a 15% reloading bonus, so I ended up putting it right back in and getting the $100.

There are probably 10 or so different ways to deposit/withdraw money from the account. I use a service called NetTeller, which is quite a bit like PayPal. It's really quick and simple, and I have had no problems at all withdrawing or depositing money.

there is always a chance people could cheat together, but it would be really hard to cheat for a period of time. i imagine they have security features which red flag people playing together for extended amounts of time. after that they probaly just have to look at hands and see. with that said, you could probaly get away with it for a few times and not get caught, so if u get unlucky and play those people before they get caught then that would suck.

I was playing online poker one night, and there were two guys that were consistently getting good hands throughout the night and squaring off against each other. They probably both drew flush draws on 3 or 4 hands and the same guy always had the higher kicker, and won many similar hands. The other guy is obviously getting pretty fed up but keeps playing. Finally, on the last hand, three diamonds were showing (7d, 5d, 8d, don't remember the other cards, but no chance of full house or 4 of a kind) by the time the river came. The guy who lost all night pretty much called hesitantly the whole way through. The guy who had won all night goes all in, and the other guy is like, hell yeah, I'm all in and turns over Ad Kd thinking he has finally won. Then, the guy who had been winning all night turned over the straight flush with 6d and 9d. It was pretty hillarious at the time.

While Party Poker can be lucrative, they have "set-up" hands such as these that just kill ya. Here's one yesterday where I had pocket aces, ended up with a full house (aces full of kings) and lost to quad kings.

There was no rake since it was all in preflop. Why would they set up hands like that where the two people are likely to go all in preflop????

I was playing some 7 stud tonight at intercasino and well lets just say this is the only site juicier than PP. I wasnt in this hand but it was pretty fun to watch a $100 pot build up in a 1/2 limit game.

I was hoping to get part of the bad beat jackpot with all the betting, but alas it was just three idiots who were too stupid to see the obvious full house.
