Love the tabs, but on android, the gmail app doesn't alert you when the other tabs receive mail. I received an important email late, as a result. Once you tell gmail certain things go to primary, it helps.

Go to manage labels in your account options and you can add a notification, just like any other label.

So let me get this straight, I HAVE to activate a G+ account to view MY OWN photos? There is no way I can get around this! I am removing all of my photos and disabling this crap - this is some bullshit.

Oh thanks, zorthage.... Never thought about that.

And yes, picasa basically became Google+

unless something has improved in the past couple months, don't use the auto-sort of gmail. got multiple bill emails sent to "promotions" even after i had categorized them in the important pile multiple times.

Can't you send bills to your inbox and 'train' the email to do what you want it to do?

Personally I don't like the sort since I do not get notifications on my phone for anything not going into my inbox.

^supposedly. but it screwed up multiple times over many months, once or twice causing me to miss bills.

^^you can get notifications, you just have to enable them.

The "training" is specific to a single email address, ie bills@payupbitch.com, but if they mix it up for some reason to payments@.... You're out of luck. Plus you can only train it via web interface, as far as I'm aware.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/01/27/us-google-deepmind-idUSBREA0Q03220140127

Quote :
"Google Inc said on Sunday it had agreed to acquire privately held artificial intelligence company DeepMind Technologies Ltd.

Technology news website Re/code, which reported news of the deal earlier, said the price was $400 million, without disclosing where it got the information.

A Google spokesman declined to comment on the price. DeepMind representatives could not be immediately reached for comment.

Founded in London in 2012 by Demis Hassabis, Shane Legg and Mustafa Suleyman, DeepMind uses general-purpose learning algorithms for applications such as simulations, e-commerce and games, according to its website.

Google, which is working on projects including self-driving cars and robots, has become increasingly focused on artificial intelligence in recent years.

In 2012, it hired Ray Kurzweil, considered one of the leading minds in the field, and in May it announced a partnership with NASA and several universities to launch the Quantum Artificial Intelligence Lab."

google has been dropping a ton of cash on extremely ambitious technologies lately.

anyone else really not like the latest browser incarnation of Google Maps? Ever since it changed several months back, it is extremely slow for me, no matter what computer I am on. It looks nice and has some neat functionality...but it just runs incredibly slow.

Yeah. New google maps sucks. It's slower and has less features. I can't fathom what they're trying to accomplish.

fuck yes, the new google maps SUCKS. Less features, and the layout is far worse. If I want to switch to maps/satellite and then change the zoom, I've got to traverse the entire screen at least once. Oh, and +/- doesn't work, because the stupid search text box captures it, making their map navigation unlike essentially every other application out there.

Speaking of which, they need to change the normal search results page so that it doesn't capture the backspace button and always apply it to the search textbox. I can't think of one single time where I have wanted that to be the behaviour of one the most commonly used web-browsing keyboard shortcuts. Not one single time have I thought, "gee, I'd like to change my search results ever so slightly, it sure would be swell if I could hit backspace and immediately start typing in the search text box..." Instead, it's always been "gee, I want to go back to the previous page, let me just hit the keyboard shortcut for going back to the previous pa... DAMNIT GOOGLE!!!!"

Did they just change (web-based) Google Maps? Or did I accidentally change some setting?

Looks same to me right now. For a moment, thought you were talking about the satellite company they just bought.

good. that's how innovation works right. try something new, if it doesn't get traction you kill it and try to innovate again
