1rst round picks for Tenn this year:
in fact in the pro bowl Tenn only had one more player than ncsu despite having twice the players in the nfl, and the 2nd was an injury reserve.

hahah, you all can do better than that, usually the opinions are somewhat funny but at least get the facts straight, and before anyone says "go back to tennessee or blah blah blah", I didnt say a word about UT in this thread until someone else did and I have much love for State, my second favorite college team now that I go here actually, just making a statement about Rivers... Brees wasnt a pro bowler when he was drafted and wasnt a pro bowler when Rivers did not win the starting job...
you cant even begin to compare the number of NFL players from UT to State... not even close...
From 2003 starting day rosters, couldnt find last year...
1. Florida 40 Notre Dame 40 3. Florida State 37 4. Miami, Fla. 36 Georgia 36 Tennessee 36 7. Texas A&M 33 8. Michigan 31 9. Ohio State 29 10. Penn State 28 Nebraska 28 12. Southern Cal 27 13. Colorado 26 14. California 25 Auburn 25 16. LSU 24 17. North Carolina 23 18. Kansas State 22 Arizona State 22 Stanford 22 UCLA 22 22. Syracuse 20 West Virginia 20 Illinois 20 Iowa 20 Wisconsin 20 Washington 20 Alabama 20 29. Michigan State 18 Miss. State 18 South Carolina 18 32. Virginia 17 Texas 17 Ole Miss 17 35. Arizona 16 36. Maryland 15 Boston College 15 Virginia Tech 15 Oklahoma 15 San Diego State 15
wow, that powerhouse of San Diego State has more... marshall faulk count as 5 maybe?
and as far as the pro bowl no one pays attention to that, half the players dont even go anymore, I could give a rats ass about that, just have to look at raw number of NFL talent

I think the fact that he was pointing out that NC State had a higher percentage of it's players in the NFL on the Pro Bowl last year than Tennessee is just pointing out that quality is better than quantity. 6/14/2005 5:45:51 PM |
Jaybee1200 Suspended 56200 Posts user info edit post |
that might be true if the NFL had mediocre players... if you are in the NFL, you are a badass athlete/player, I dont care if you are a practice squad player, if you are in the NFL you are a badass and better than any former college player who didnt make it... it just matters how far back you want to go. Going by your logic UT has a "higer percentage" of its players go pro than State, so therefore, quality over quantity 6/14/2005 5:57:55 PM |

Quote : | "From their Chargers training camp write up:
"In his first training camp, backup quarterback Philip Rivers is having some growing pains. Though Rivers is known for his accuracy, he is having good days and bad days in camp. He is throwing too many wobbly passes, and often missing his target.
"Some of it is being rusty," Rivers said. "I'm excited about my progress, but yeah, I've made some mistakes and had some tough days."
No worry. Drew Brees is the unchallenged starter at the moment, and Rivers will have most of four preseason games to gain some confidence. He threw just eight passes last season as a rookie and missed too much of training camp to be counted on as more than just the third quarterback.
The release of Doug Flutie makes Rivers the backup, and he has plenty of time to get ready. No one knows how the quarterback position will shake out after the season. Rivers is on a six-year contract. Brees is on a one-year franchise contract. If Brees has another Pro Bowl season, Rivers might be traded. He's a big quarterback at 6-5, 228 pounds. He throws the ball close to his body, but his delivery isn't sidearm." " |

Quote : | "Rivers is realistic about job
This is not a competition.
To recognize it as one would be an insult to Drew Brees and to our intelligence.Even Marty Schottenheimer – who with a subliminal wink at the start of Chargers training camp said the quarterback spot was up for grabs – knows that.
Philip Rivers certainly knows that, which is why he is able to look past what happened Thursday and so greatly look forward to this coming Thursday.
Rivers was, in a word, bad on Thursday. And he wasn't great on Friday either.
"No question," he acknowledged.
Rivers simply lacked sharpness. He missed receivers with his throws and his eyes. He was intercepted three times in about as many minutes.
If this were truly a competition between him and Drew Brees, it would be tempting to say it was finished.
But the work has barely begun for Rivers, a backup quarterback with a lot of money and a little experience.
"I'm excited for the preseason games to start," Rivers said. "I'm going to get four games to play a significant amount, I would hope – to get out there and make some plays and learn from some plays and kind of get my feet wet."
The Chargers open their exhibition season Thursday at Green Bay, and Rivers will be playing, at the latest, by the second quarter.
"I'm ready," he said. "I'm going in confident in what we're doing."
Rivers did not arrive in training camp until the final week of August last year as his agent and the Chargers haggled over a contract that ultimately guaranteed the Chargers will pay him at least $14.5 million (no matter how much he plays this year and whether he is even here next year).
He played in just two preseason games, the first of which was four days after his first practice. Then he sat for all but one series through the season's first 15 games. Even his work in the second half of the regular-season finale against Kansas City, in which he completed five of his eight passes and threw a 13-yard touchdown pass, does not stimulate him like the thought of what lies ahead the next month.
After spending a season hardly getting any reps in practice most weeks, Rivers has had an active role in training camp. Brees, as it should be, is the more accurate and more polished quarterback, but Rivers is coming along.
"He's an extremely bright young man," Schottenheimer said. "He's got great football instincts. He's certainly in better command of the offense than at any time a year ago."
So exciting is it for Rivers to be here, to have it feel as if his career is really starting, he swears he even embraces the bad days.
"I'm not saying I'm glad I made some mistakes," he said. "But at this point it can only help for those things to happen in practice. To be honest, things were really going pretty smoothly up until (Thursday) afternoon. Yeah, I've missed throws. Yeah, I've missed reads. It was good to learn from, not let it bother you and haunt you. It's better it happens in Thursday afternoon practice than next Thursday.
"I'm going into these next four games knowing I'm going to play. I'm going to get my opportunity to go out there to play and try to help us win those games and show what I can do. If I hit a bump in the road in practice in camp, it can't hurt you, that's for sure."" |

Just b/c the chargers were stupid enough to think that Brees was washed up at the ripe old age of 26 doesn't mean that he was. They are morons and PRiv (as much as I love him) really missed his FIRST shot by holding out. HOWEVER, PRiv is only 22 and will be getting better once he shakes the rust off.
I love it when people talk shit here and then say: "But I mean, like uh, State's my second favorite team"--IF THAT WERE EVEN CLOSE TO TRUE -- why the shit talk?
