I'm totally feeling the 1/4life crisis. Married this past January, our first child due Feb 13 2006, still planning on finishing DVM school, being prepared at any given moment that my husband could be deployed in less than 18 hours, balancing finances, working, and trying to find a moment for myself to just be me in any given day. Pure panic baby.

I'm not having a crisis per se, just a lot of shit to sort out. Moved across the country twice over the course of a year, so a lot of debt to pay off from that. Just bought a house in May and that takes a lot of cash each month. Not that happy at my job, trying to start a business on the side, and also apply for another job at a friend's company.

Eh, could be worse...

I prefer the questions I listed above to "Should I go to class today or not?" Its just more stressful, I guess, and a helluva lot more impact on life. But at the same time I feel more alive, more in control.

I realized recently that the entire decade of my twenties will be devoted to school and residency... I had the thought that I was wasting my twenties up here in the library every night. I do love school and what I'm studying to be so it is worth it.

Once I'm done I can travel and do the really fun things that I don't have money to do now anyways!

i am experiencing the quarter-life crisis. i am tired of renting and throwing away money. i wish to buy a house and make some equity, but it's tough on a single salary. i feel like i'm in a lot of debt, but after speaking with a credit counselor who works in my building, come to find out, the average 25-28 year old is in about 15k debt...and that doesn't include collge loans. that's credit cards alone! well, i'm no where near that thank god.
i'm waiting for my loan status to come through. i am trying to get pre-approved. we'll see how that goes. i should hear this week.
that's the most important thing going on in my life.
then, i just sit back and wonder why i've never had any real type of relationship. i sit around asking myself what the hell is wrong with me? i really think i'm pretty normal. which, perhaps that's the problem. i don't stand out. nothing sets me a part from the rest of the world. to be compeletely honest, i'm one of the coolest chicks i know.

I have been out on my own for 3 years now and I know I am throwing away money on apartments, but it is too expensive to live in a house being single. PLus it doesn't help that I am living on a teacher's salary and paying back student loans.

I am sure there is nothing wrong with you...just the right guy hasn't come into your life I guess. I mean that is what I am telling myself(well except it is a girl...and not a guy)

As for me, though, yeah, I'm feeling it a bit. I mean, at least my school/job status is set for awhile, but after med school and residency I won't really be practicing until I'm 31. I won't have another paying job, period, until I'm 26 and starting residency. I don't know where I'll get a residency, and I have no idea where I'll end up working after that.

Add that to the fact that it seems impossible to find a good relationship, and things are kind of up in the air even if it seems like they shouldn't be.

thinking back on lost opportunities ( i should be graduating from med school next may, but im not)

i have two semesters left in nursing school, sometimes feel like my BS from state was a waste.

I have no idea what i want to do in nursing, but if i want to be a CRNA i have to find a job in critical care(not easy to do as a new grad), get my BSN from somewhere, and get into RNA school. To do all that shit i might as well reapply to med school

Im still single and with all of this school still ahead of me, i dont know when i will have time to find a man, especially since i seem to be wasting time with the immature little shits that keep finding me.

yep. mine was a BA, but i feel the same way.

i start work tomorrow, moving desks and furniture into a new school for 8 bucks an hour.

its the only thing i've been able to find. my degree hasn't provided a thing yet.

Yea I'm looking at buying a house down the street right now. Tired of throwing away rent on a house thats just okay. I really love the yard of the other house and its got a lot more room. Plus it looks like I may be able to still qualify for the loan and keep my car, which I would REALLY like to do. But if part of growing up means I have to get rid of it, then I'll understand.

well the way i see it, grad school will take a large chunk of time

because i'm looking at getting my JD and MPA at the same time

or going to Guatemala for Med School

but really, it just may end me up at the same place

i might just go to the school board office up here and check that out though. i'd of course have to go back to school to get certified, and then start work on my masters so i could eventually become a principal, but still.

quarter life crisis would assume that i will live to be ~100

i don't plan to live past 75/80 so i'm about 1/3 of the way done

some major setbacks but no real crisis yet

Man, when I graduated in May of '02, there wasn't shit for jobs. I landed one 4 months after I graduated and that was before most people I knew who graduated with me. Until then I delivered pizzas for a while and worked at a car dealership, just did whatever I could to pay the bills.

i had a direction and a plan

i did everything right, including getting my mechanical engineering degree and having laser eye surgery...but then uncle sam kinda screwed me.

so i'm just kinda riding it out, now. i feel like i'm squandering tons of abilities, but i'm getting kind of apathetic about it, b/c i'm tired of running myself ragged trying to be the best, only to get screwed by "the system." I still work out a lot, but i don't really like to run, so i don't anymore. I study enough to do well, but I'd rather hang out on the beach than keep my head in the books enough to really blow the material out of the water. i don't want to stay in the military as a backseater rather than a pilot. i guess i'll never get to be a test pilot, and without a long career in the military or any desire to become a lawyer, i don't really know how i'd launch the career in politics i'd envisioned after the military. i'll have the GI Bill to pay for whatever training or schooling i want when i get out, but there isn't much else i want to do. i'd pretty much been set on what i wanted to do since i was a little kid. i kinda dread just having to get some mundane job to pay the bills that i don't really give a shit about, just like everyone else. i'd looked forward to having my work be my play.

nawh, when 25 came along, i was like, wow, but then i thought, better than 50

also, i think i found what i want to do, EMA, i kinda lucked into it finding the job last year, temporary, but they called me back this year(disasters get called back) When i get back home will look into that more closely. Never would of really thought about EMA type work, until i lucked out at getting a position last year due to all the hurricanes. Just you got to enjoy traveling with 48hrs notice and living out of a suitecase for 6 months out of the year.

fuck business, took me forever to get that degree, and my first job in management i hated it.

yeah i am 25 and still living in U. Woods for the next two weeks. I felt it was time for a change, not that i don't like my roommates or my neighbors, but the college scene is getting a little too old for me. I feel like I on a step toward a new begining by moving to cary in an apartment complex where there are more people my age. I hope to get a house or something I own by next year, but I guess we will see.

I don't consider my situation a mid-life crisis but instead a mid-life adjustment for the better. I have now spent a year at my job, which I love, I don't miss college in anyway, and it seems I am having more fun now then I have had in quite a long time.

Duke, my uncle was a marine test pilot, he loved it. Sucks that you won't get the chance (presumably due to the imperfect vision thing). Get uncle sam to pay for an MBA and go from there, that's what he did after about 25 years in the Corp. Now he's worth a few million.

Personally, I'm pretty ok with my station in life at the moment. I'm moving out west next summer, don't have anything to tie me down (single, no kids, no real job) and I'm pretty much doing whatever I want. I wish I could find a career I was interested in, but nothing's really ever struck me as being "the job" for me. Sometimes I feel like college was a waste of my time, and frankly it probably was considering I got a BA in English Lit at an engineering school when I could have stuck with engineering or transferred to a more highly regarded liberal arts school for the Lit degree. I enjoyed the hell out of the classes I took, (even the two years of engineering I did) and could pretty easily go back and get a degree in something like chemistry, but I don't think more school is the answer for me.

Right now I'm just a working class schlub, but that's ok. In all probability I'll be a blue collar guy for as long as it takes to gain financial independence. My tentative plan is to set money aside to buy either houses or apartments/condos and then eventually retire and live off of the rent and dividends from other investments. It'll take some time, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna work my ass off for the next 40 years just to retire when the best years of my life are behind me.

no, my eyes are awesome. i see 20/15. i just got caught in a crunch for backseaters, and they sent me to be a backseater.

i guess that previous post sounds kinda whiny, but it's a kick in the balls when you've known exactly what you've had the next 40+ years all planned out and set up, and were basically right on course to pull it off (due to busting your balls to get there), and then it gets pulled out from under you...especially when you've been looking forward to doing it since you were like 8.
