well, it might be... I wouldn't say it was that high. But, when I first moved to DC, there were 9 girls around my age in my apartment building and only 1 guy (which was me ). So, it may be true!

Yah Red Line

The Alumni Group watches the games at the Crystal City Sports Pub. Just take the Blue/Yellow line to Crystal City and the CCSP is just a short walk from the Metro stop.

Absolutely.

You should go to the local alumni club's website: http://www.ncstatedc.com/ and sign up for the weekly e-mails.

The latest info on Saturday's game watch:

Quote :
"Va. Tech Game Watch - Sept. 4

Join fellow Wolfpackers and watch the Pack kick off the season with a bang against #7 Virginia Tech on Sunday, Sept. 4. Gametime is 7:15pm. The gang will be at the usual hangout, Crystal Cuty Sports Pub in Arlingon (529 S. 23rd Street). Drop a line to mailto:social@ncstatedc.com if you plan to come so the organizer can get a headcount.

Note: There may be additional watches organized by folks in Baltimore and/or Fredericksburg. Stay tuned.."

I'll probably head over there to watch the Eastern Kentucky UNC game, unless I end up getting tickets and driving to Raleigh last minute.

DC Peeps. What are you guys up to here (other than your money making opportunities aka job)?

As for me, I have to really recommend this volunteer thing I do called college bound ([link]www.collegebound.org[\link]). It is a tutoring/mentoring program for DC public School Students wanting to go to college.

Other than that, I can't recommend much else that I have tried out. I am thinking about the dc ski club though - they seem to have TONS going on. Is anybody here already involved? [link]http://www.scwdc.org/[\link]

Does anybody else do fun stuff around here? I have also partaken in things like HFH and my ANC but wasn't amazed.

Anybody going to game-watch on Thursday???

However...if anybody is going to be in Bethesda area this Thurs for the game drop me a line (I have to be there after work anyways). If not, maybe I will just head on over to CCSP across the freakin' river. GO WOLFPACK!

I'm playing on the alumni flag football team. This Thursday I probably won't make the game watch (I'll have to work late, then pack to leave town early Friday. I'll probably try to make it next week for Clemson, though.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it out to CCSP for the gamewatch, as I'll be working late on Thursday...might just try and find a good sports bar closer to home and watch.

On other notes, I'm about to start volunteering regularly at the Latin-American Youth Center's Art & Media House, teaching some classes on writing and (possibly) the history of hip-hop.

Question for all you Maryland folks:

How do you avoid the Maryland Excise Titling Tax on new cars. For example, if you buy a car and pay 3% tax in NC and get a registration in Maryland, they will charge you the difference between NC tax and MD tax. Is this the case and is there a way to avoid this communism?

^yep, i had to pay it. Didn't see any way around it, but I argued with the guy at the MVA for 3 min. Which got me no where. If you figure something out let me know.

Maybe there is something in this statement you can use...

IF "the new owner (buyer) wants to base the excise tax calculation (5% of the vehicle's value) on the sale price rather than the book value." Then you must have Proof of purchase price - This should be a bill of sale signed by both the buyer(s) and seller(s). The bill of sale must be notarized if the following conditions apply:

^^ there is no way to avoid paying the tax. they know what state the car was previously titled in and unless you provide proof that it was orignially titled in another state, they assume it was titled in the state where the car is currently registered. we moved to maryland from texas where sales tax is 6.25% so we didn't have to pay the excise tax on our cars. but we still got charged the $128 registation and tag fee. what a ripoff.

rent shouldn't be a problem. If the offer is worth it, increased cost of living should be factored in your offer and should convert to something desirable if you were living in Raleigh.

[Edited on November 10, 2005 at 12:10 PM. Reason : I would say the difference for rent is about $6000]

if you live in woodbridge, stafford, or spotsylvania, and commute, you'll save alot on rent

but it will cost more gas, and wear and tear

basically, live far away for lower rent, and get a motorcycle for the commute

I lived up there from the time I graduated NCSU til August 04. I lived in Germantown June 02-May 03. Gaithersburg May 03-March 04. And then Fairfax March 04-August 04. I loved it up there, always something to do and someone to hang out with. Georgetown, the museums, and just walking around the mall were some of my favorite things to do up there. Maybe my husband will get sent to an army base up there soon so we can go back. That would be nice...
