Since a bunch of you are older (and thus have more $) and I know a few are certified, let me throw this one out:

Does anyone want to go SCUBA Diving either this weekend (short notice) or next weekend (probably better time frame)? I subscribe to a good diving newsletter so I might know of a place or two to go. I just want to get a dive trip in before the end of the summer.

duke, go get certified down there. unless the wait is nothing now, but you should have time to do it before you start api.

yeah, i'm about to try to burn up as much leave as i can before i start API, but i'm pretty sure i'll still have at least a week to wait after i come back from leave, and it might be several weeks.

burke, i won't be flying again for a little while. they were sending me through civilian flying lessons, but i have a 6 week long ground school coming up next.

don't burn all your leave. i did that in primary, checked into meridian 4 days in the hole, and the command went nuts and wouldn't let me take leave until i at least had 10 days. you doget to take leave in the training command, but you have to have it.

OK, I hadn't thought about that. Yeah, you should have no problem if you are in between courses or in ground school. You can get a cert in a few days.

Big thing is, be sure you consult your flight surgeon's policy on SCUBA and flying if you plan on going while you're in class. Aside from the obvious reasons (ie altitude physiology), remember that any flight school is designed to take a lot of fun out of life, guaranteed.

^^yeah, i have 28 days, and i'm about to take 16 of them. then i'll be back in FL for a little over a month before API picks me up, and then 6 weeks of API. should be back up to about 19 days by the end of API.

oh, and it looks like the earliest i'll pick up in API is 30 Sept, so i'll have plenty of time to go get my SCUBA cert when i get back. Let me know if you wanna come down and do some diving after i get licensed.


oh, and NAMI PQ'd me as a pilot yesterday, pending the return of my labwork, so Col. Holzworth (Col. Barraclaugh's successor) said he'd start pushing for a pipeline switch from SNFO to SNA.

i'm down, if anybody wants to go.

just called a local dive shop...they offer certification for $159, and mask/fin packages from $129. they have a 1-week certification course starting on 5 Sept, which I'm planning on enrolling in.

so where is the dive trip to? I'm already certified and have own equipment. if its on a weekend then its good for me to dive.

I went this past weekend, didn't see your thread, had to rent equipment myself... there are a bunch of wreck out of beaufort inlet/AB area...
