Quote :
" STORRS, Conn. -- Connecticut point guard A.J. Price was arrested Friday in connection with the theft of four laptops from student dorm rooms.

The 19-year-old Price, a highly touted sophomore, surrendered to police and was charged with three felony larceny charges and with lying to police, a misdemeanor.

Investigators did not say whether Price stole the computers, but they said Price and two others had tried to sell them. Two were found in Price's room, police said.

It was not immediately clear what the arrest meant for Price's status on the Huskies. He missed the 2004-05 season after suffering a brain hemorrhage in October.

Messages seeking comment were left at the school's athletic offices.

Price originally denied knowing the laptops were in his room, police said. When confronted with incriminating cellular phone text messages, police said Price confessed to knowing they were there.

Price was released on a $10,000 bond and is due in court Aug. 23. The larceny charges carry a penalty of up to five years in prison and $5,000 in fines.

yea I knew this was coming. Him and Marcus Williams were involved.. I don't know what Marcus got..

This kid is an idiot and deserves what ever he gets. Personally I'll be disappointed if he isn't off the team.

I mean really.. how stupid can a kid be? He missed all of last year with a life-threatening injury and then he gets healthy and does this? What the hell was he thinking..

^ I wouldn't go that far.. it's not like this is a program like Cincy or something.. a few bad apples always come up.. in every program

Oh and I'm fucking pissed at those two dumbasses. Williams and Price. They did something that has nothing to do with the program and I hope they too, now have nothing to do with the program.

If I were Rudy Gay or Josh Boone, who come back to school to win a National Championship, I'd probably slug each one of them in the face. Not only did they cost the 'good kids' on the team a chance at a good year but they could possibly cost them a higher draft pick. I mean now they are going to have an unranked freshman playing PG..

Fuck those 2 kids..

The rumor is that the two will be kicked off the basketball team for no less then one year but have the option to stay at the school under scholarship for classes.

Pretty fair considering the charges were knocked down to misdemeanors.

This is bullshit. Fuck sucking up to some atheletes because they make the university money. My Park Scholar suitemate got busted for toking some ganga over Thanksgiving break (he was one of the few in the building) and they revoked the fuck out of his scholly. You guys might remember him, Bryan Proffit. He has done infinitely more good for this society (the Fran food drive, etc) than these fuck faces will ever do.

Fuck this shit and fuck those punk ass kids.

It's a smart move by the University. Those kids aren't going to stay 'just for school.' Heck one of them was a preseason All-American. They'll transfer to some school that loves criminals like Cincy or UNLV or Fresno St. It's just a ploy to make it look like the bball program is trying 'to help the kids.'

But I agree, being a UConn fan, and saying fuck those kids. This pisses me off beyond belief that these two fucknuts can be so stupid.. especially one of them who nearly died less then a year ago..

Here is the lowdown

Quote :
"Marcus Williams will play this season. A.J. Price will not.

The uncertainty surrounding the suspended University of Connecticut basketball players ended Friday with the announcement of their school-imposed punishments.

The Huskies still must begin without Williams, considered among the best point guards in the nation, and rely on freshmen Craig Austrie and Rob Garrison. But Williams, suspended from basketball-related activities through Dec. 17 and cleared to play games beginning Jan. 1, will return for the start of Big East Conference play.

Williams, a junior, will miss 11 games and return Jan. 3 at Marquette. He received a two-semester suspension held in abeyance, meaning he can continue to take classes but could be expelled if he fails to comply with several conditions.

Price, a freshman in eligibility, also was suspended two semesters, but only the second held in abeyance. He is barred from all basketball-related activities until April 28, 2006, and has returned home to Amityville, N.Y. Price has not been attending classes, and plans to return to school in the spring semester. Williams has been attending classes this semester."

If the SLIGHTEST bit of trouble is heard from Williams I hope they kick him off that campus as fast as they can. I don't necessarily like the fact that he is playing at all this year but the fan in me knows this means that UConn is again a favorite with Duke to win it all. I didn't know he would play at all until today so I had Duke penciled in already but this makes it a bit more unclear. They are the 2 CLEAR favorites going in though.

AJ Price will never play for UConn; I'm pretty certain of that. Too bad a few bad kids almost hurt the rest of the team, who are mostly good kids. I guess it goes like that at every school though sometimes...

that's how it works though, the big star gets a slap on the wrist while the "lesser" player has an example made of him

I don't judge them on their players so much as I do on their Head Coach. Calhoun is the biggest snake in NCAA basketball....

He wins. Players want to play there. I mean you're opinion is cool.. I feel the same way about K (those commercials for instance).. I love Calhoun. He pretty much is the icon for state of Connecticut nationally and he is a Boston guy

I certainly understand why people dislike him. It comes with the territory. Oh and for the record Gary Williams is just a bitter bitter man because Calhoun owns him in recruiting.

I got to find a sports bar now to watch the State game.. Damn business in Chicago!

I didn't know you were a big New Englander fan... not trying to piss you off. I just know too many bad things about him (as does anyone else who reads the paper)

Oh, and ask Ed Nelson how much he likes playing for Calhoun . Calhoun snaked his way into getting him as well... as he does for many of his recruits.

Same as what you said... more power to you if you like him... I just can't stand him. Have you read Doyel's column on Calhoun? I actually don't like Doyel but he hit the nail on the head with that column (In my opinion, at least)

I know being so good jealousy will come out in a lot of ways. I don't like Coach K because he is just so damn good and sometimes it looks like he gets away with things to me. I admit I have pre-conceived opinions and my hatred was originally based on jealousy. Just like you think Calhoun does the same and is a snake.. I don't care about that. Doyel on the other hand, is about as disingenuous a reporter there is in the country. He is still bitter about losing is job at the New Haven Register beacuse he exaggerated a madeup claim about an incident with regards to a former UConn recruit. Whatever though..

Here is another take on it from the Sporting News.

http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=32180

Frankly I'm sick of people bitching about kids wanting to come to UConn and switching a bit late. We didn't bitch when Amato sung to A.J. Davis and got him to come here on signing day over UNC, did we? No we praised Chuck for a recruiting coup, and rightly so. Gary Williams has it out for Calhoun too because he can't keep kids in his own state home (Rudy Gay and Josh Boone come to mind). I'd hardly consider Gary Williams a bastion of class and morality. Now St. Johns is making a big deal out of this. Well guess what. Their hero Carnasecca did the SAME EXACT THING to a UConn recruit/player named Nadav Henefeld in 1989. No big thing was made about it then.

What people don't know about that situation specifically is that Wiggins is a CT guy and dreamed of playing for UConn since he was a young kid. He didn't think he would get that chance but thanks to circumstances a spot opened up at UConn. HE called first and asked about it. He wanted to go to UConn and this afforded him a chance.

As for Ed Nelson. Well he decided to transfer. If he doesn't like his playing time... well tough shit. There are LOADS better players then him in the frontcourt on that roster...

I didn't hear about that. I'd like to see some evidence on it frankly. I mean people made a big deal about Rudy Gay after Gary flipped his shit. Turns out nothing wrong was happening. He is a great recruitier. If what you say about Nelson is actually true then yea.. that is fucked up. I can admit that.

But this isn't a recurring theme. Based off purely memory I don't recall another Verbal rescinding to goto UConn.

Correct me if I'm wrong, you are a UNC fan? I ask you how did you feel when AJ Davis signed his LOI to UNC? Probably pissed off. Did Amato break any rules in getting AJ to sign? This is the EXACT same situation. Only Calhoun didn't actively contact Wiggins after his Verbal..

EDIT: I don't give a shit if anyone accuses me of talking about UConn too much. This is a good debate either way...

yea I would have been pissed but I read it as more of a misunderstanding

if I remember correctly it was his coach that kept saying he was a lock to UNC so he may have just got the wrong impression

yeah, maybe he'd be pissed if AJ Davis could tackle and not leave his guy wide open half the time

(I know you're going to say something about the FSU game where he played good, but where has it been his entire career? he's a letdown)

It has to be surreal for the students who had their laptops stolen. Imagine if Philip Rivers would've stole laptops when he was here. Think about how weird it would be to walk into your room and see Philip going through your shit.

Me: "Philip Rivers?"
PR: "uh hey..."

Me: "Are.. Are you stealing my laptop?"
PR: "yeah."

Me: "Is that my Chumbawumba CD too?!"

Me: "Fuck man, I won't say anything just get out of here... You can keep the Chumbawumba CD."
