Quote : | "The resolutely single Don has just been dumped by his latest lover, Sherry. Don yet again resigns himself to being alone and left to his own devices. Instead, he is compelled to reflect on his past when he receives by mail a mysterious pink letter. It is from an anonymous former lover and informs him that he has a 19-year-old son who may now be looking for his father.
Don is urged to investigate this "mystery" by his closest friend and neighbor, Winston, an amateur sleuth and family man. Hesitant to travel at all, Don nonetheless embarks on a cross-country trek in search of clues from four former flames. Unannounced visits to each of these unique women hold new surprises for Don as he haphazardly confronts both his past and, consequently, his present." |
This is the new Jim Jarmusch flick starring Bill Murray and a whole gaggle of women, including but not limited to Tilda Swinton, Sharon Stone, Francis Conroy, and Julie Delpy.
It's got an 8.1 on IMDB, 87% on RottenTomatoes, an 80 on MetaCritic, and it won the Gran Prix at Cannes this year. Should be hot.
Opening at Galaxy Cinema this Friday, 08/19/2005. I'll put up the showtimes once I have 'em.8/15/2005 3:07:21 PM |

you should make a galaxy thread so we can get the scoop on when cool new movies are coming out and then i can go see them and smile awkwardly at you when you take my ticket 8/15/2005 3:15:50 PM |

We've got promotional materials for Deep Blue, but that doesn't mean much.
If this shit continues much longer, Crossroads might start taking the documentaries out from under us. But we'll probably get it.

It isn't depressing.
It's pretty funny.
I mean, I can see how it would be depressing if you were middle aged and unhappy, but I doubt you are. 8/19/2005 2:04:08 AM |

on a scale of worthiness
meaning worthy of its mass "appreciation"
where do you think it rates
like, are people going ga-ga for it because its bill murray + some director whose movies have been too small for them to see in the past (a la lost in translation) ***note, this assumes people don't realize its the same guy who directed fucking Ghost Dog***
or is it really a fine film that people are truly appreciating
because i still think if they had sat on the script for Larger than Life and went with a more indie director, that film, released today, would be like heaven to some people
not that Larger than Life isn't heaven to me
and thats because i've been a bill murray fan since i was like 10 --- and not beacuse of ghostbusters] 8/20/2005 7:25:24 PM |

Well, there's a difference.
There's mass appreciation.
There's mass anticipation.
There's a lot of people coming to see this movie. Not as many as penguins, but more than any previous independent film we've had.
As to whether they'll actually like it, I dunno. It's pretty funny on the surface, I think. I think people will like it for the most part. 8/20/2005 7:56:55 PM |

BUT HOW DOES IT COMPARE TO LARGER THAN LIFE
because if i understand correctly, they're very similar in theme 8/20/2005 11:51:00 PM |

To be honest, i haven't seen Larger Than Life.
Or maybe I did but I don't remember it.
I'm guessing it's better. 8/20/2005 11:55:44 PM |

its the one with the elephant man
you'd remember
and that SHOULD read "elephant, man"
but instead, i'd rather write this addendum than add the fucking comma
because i'm a rebel 8/21/2005 12:03:50 AM |

In a thread about "Broken Flowers," a film starring Bill Murray, Woodfoot declares himself a rebel.
"Rebel Rebel" is a David Bowie song featured in "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou," a film starring Bill Murray. 8/21/2005 12:14:07 AM |
