i got a 01 bare longblock that needs to be checked out by a qualified mechanic....
any recommendations?
besides a leak down test, what else should be done?

well, if you want it really checked out it needs the oil pan pulled for inspection of the bottom end bearings, have things mic'd etc... at which point you might as well do a bottom end rebuild a good compression and leakdown will give you a pretty good indication of the topend (cylinders anyway, not neccesarily cam wear, cam bearings, etc.). at best , you're still taking some risk without being able to have it run.

if its just a bare block take it to a machine shop, call HRT in durham he might be able to do it for you
