so who's going? I wasn't going to, but I received two free tix via my roommate. I saw em in 1994 and now I'm back, 11 years later. weird.

Back in May my mom won the tickets from 96.1 and told me to take my 16 year old sister. They were for the floor, but being comp tickets I thought they'd be in the back or something not realizing that the floor was one open area without chairs. We were like 30 feet from the stage and it was AWESOME! They really know how to perform for the crowd and not just give a live CD. Also, while Jimmy Eat World may not be mainstream enough for some of your tastes they really played their hearts out and gave a great performance.

Best part of the concert (since I had seen some of the other things before) was when he said "Fuck You to all the rednecks"

I do think it's interesting how people say Blink 182 is over the hill and I am pretty sure they haven't been together as long as Greenday has. I also applaud them for having the guts to come to such a red state and giving the Bush Administration and hicks the middle finger. But maybe I underestimate the "punk rock" population in NC.

i think the reason people say blink is over the hill is due to lack of new or exciting material and not in reference to their age or how long they've been together

their new album is solid, that's all there is to it.

I've probably seen as many concerts as anybody in here, including the pixies and interpol TWICE just this year among many others, and this was a stellar live show that is up there if not better than any of em. green day isn't my favorite band by any means, but I respect em and the show was great.

^^ I have never seen you make a positive statement.

^ I found it to be about 85% garbage. Then again I'm not a big Green Day fan at all, primarily because I hate punk music. If Jimmy Eat World would've been the primary band last night, I would've gone without hesitation.

wow, interpol and the pixies were two of the greatest shows i have ever been to (the first interpol show in ashville was much, much better than the one in raleigh though, we both would agree). i understand what you're saying about the live show aspect of it. hell, i would say that blink 182 put on one hell of a show 4 or 5 years ago when they had that giant flaming "fuck" sign behind them, ha.

^dude, go jam out to some fucking string cheese incident or something

^^and yeah, the pixies and interpol shows were awesome. as were the shins and the badly drawn boy show at the cat's cradle. I love all those bands much more than green day. I'm just saying that green day rocked the place last night. as far as a live show goes, it was one of the better ones I've seen this year.

they (string cheese) suck just as bad.

listen, before you get you panties all in wad, let me just say that im necessary saying that interpol, green day, or the pixies put on a bad show. im just saying that the rest of the shows youve been to much suck if you think they are some of the best live shows out there.

ive seen green day and the pixies before...i had a good time, but they by no means are up there as some of the best shows ive been to. they were entertaining, but neither one can claim to be known for their live performances.

thats all im saying.

I've been to green day before too. THIS SHOW was a better show. Interpol in asheville was awesome. interpol in raleigh was just ok. pixies in raleigh was amazing, but just because it was the pixies. it's not like they did anything special. this was just a very good live show last night. I'm not sitting here saying that green day is the best band in the land or anything. but it was a very good live show.

also, I never said it was the best live show ever. Just best live show I've seen recently.

I always love the argument that NEW BAND puts on a better show than OLD BAND. Just remember, in 5-10 years, assuming NEW BAND survives, you will be going to see them and raving about the show. And you can bet someone younger than you will come up and talk about the shitty show you went to.

I was there last night and thought that green day was great. It was fun, interactive and most importantly the music was awesome.

why people continue to argue over opinions is beyond me...

WTF? American Idiot is probably the best album they've ever put out (and before this one, I would've given that honor to Kerplunk). It's the only cohesive album they've ever written, for one thing.

They haven't really moved away from punk, though--they slightly left the pop punk world by turning the album into a political statement, but they've retained the three-power-chord style.
