Aaybody know about what it would cost to get a new outboard motor for a boat that is a 17 foot johnson/evinrude V bottom (80's model) recreational boat that you would ski/kneeboard/wakeboard behind? I wouldnt need as monster engine, just one that is reliable and could easily do the task.

Damn...I would recommend a minimum of 115 to 125 and more like 150 to 175 hp.

And you would be looking at a minimum of around $5000, probably closer to 7 or 8 to get a brand new motor.

Outboards are NOT cheap.

ok.....thats out...what about havin one rebuilt drom the ground up if it was kept up well, then stopped getting used 6yrs ago

How do you know it needs rebuilding? I would make sure it's good and clean. Change the plugs. Rebuild the carbs.

And fog the hell out of it with something like CRC's marine winterizer spray shit for 2-strokes or Sea Foam Deep Creep or PB B'laster. Crank it for a couple of minutes (with the spark plugs out; taking a break every 15 seconds or so) and let it sit over night.

Put the plugs in, mix some good fresh gas and oil WELL in a seperate container, and then gas 'er up.

Try running 'er then.

Parts for outboards are NOT cheap...try the easier, cheaper things first.

for something like a yamaha or mercury, you're lookin at about $5-7k for a 150-200 hp motor, you'd be better off rebuilding the one you have for about $300-500. what type of motor is it, what horsepower and year, and what is the problem with it? i do some work on sea-doos and outboards and i might could take a look at it for ya, but it would be a week or two before i could get to it, i'm so backed up with stuff right now.
