Series: HP deskjet 845c

Problem: When a thunderstorm rolled through my area yesterday, I turned off my computer and unplugged the surge protector, forgetting to turn off the printer first. After the storm, I plugged everything back in and turned the computer on, but the lights for the resume button and low ink notification on the printer were orange. The lights aren't blinking, just constantly orange. Also, when I lift the lid, the ink cartridges won't move. The printer is essentially frozen.

Attempted troubleshooting: I've tried to unplug the printer for several minutes, I've tried to push both the power button and the resume button to reset the printer, I've checked all the connections into the printer and outlet, and I've rebooted the computer, both with the printer plugged in and not plugged in.

This has happened once before but my friend's boyfriend fixed it and he never told me how he did it. I've also contacted HP over email and they said they couldn't figure out the problem.

Since it's happened before, I know it can be fixed. I know it hasn't shorted out.

Any suggestions? I'd rather not take it somewhere else because they'll charge money to do so.

THANKS!

I'll sell you my DeskJet 930C for $10. It's running low on ink but works perfectly otherwise.
