if the "intel extreme" graphics has discrete vram and you threw in another 256mb, I'd say the r51. otherwise, definately the t30. 9/2/2005 3:46:26 AM |

T30 is faster, has more RAM, and is slimmer/lighter. R51 has a cd-writer and is (presumably) newer, since I know the T-series line has reached either the T42 or T43.
Just going on the info you've given us I say T30. 9/3/2005 1:11:59 AM |

ignoring the fact that two important pieces are left out (prices and the machines' past usage). . .
the processors are about the same in performance, and the R51 is going to have much longer battery life due to the pentium-m processor. on top of that, if the T30 has been used a lot, the battery is going to be in poor shape, as it's probably about 3 years old, whereas the R51 is last year's model.
i am pretty sure the R has integrated video, since i believe the discrete graphics card would probably be an ATI.
the T30 has a cute little shock absorbing cushion on the bottom, under the hard drive.
the build quality of the T series is better but the R51 is not shabby at all. T = thin sturdy metal, R = thicker sturdy ABS plastic.
unless you need discrete graphics, i'd take the R51 and bump the ram up to 512MB. 9/3/2005 1:43:20 AM |
