she can get you autographs of the rest of her motley WWE wrestling crew Degeneration X,
or perhaps a copy of her sex video with the group's former leader, the notorious XPac

to slowly force the piston back so you can get the new pads in
you know that disc brakes are self adjusting....right? 8/24/2005 4:01:45 PM |

there must be good instructions somewhere on the net 8/24/2005 4:08:08 PM |
ScHpEnXeL Suspended 32613 Posts user info edit post |
instructions, by me:
take off wheel via lugnuts
take off caliper via big bolt or two that hold it on
pads can now be removed from caliper with ease
push piston back in caliper with c clamp
put new pads in caliper
put caliper back on w/bolts
put wheel back on
next wheel please 8/24/2005 4:10:44 PM |

fuck the C clamp, spend $10 and get the "right" tool from sears. its use specifically for pressing back the piston. and its reallll easy to use. 8/24/2005 4:18:38 PM |

ive never really used the C clamp method. ive always used this tool from sears, if not then a big channel lock plier.
i mean, a c clamp that big, probably like $5-7 or so. 8/24/2005 4:23:04 PM |

C clamp is the right tool.
I will do pads for 20, but i just left raleigh. 8/24/2005 4:23:16 PM |

you, sir, are a sucker. they work the same way. unless you have more than one piston per caliper, a c clamp is just fine.
by your logic, you should flag down the snap-on guy, and give him $110 to get the right tool, and not fuck your brakes up with some sears junk. 8/24/2005 8:14:09 PM |

Now is it really worth returning a $10 C-clamp, that you will eventually use again? Just doesn't seem worth the trouble. 8/24/2005 9:40:02 PM |

i use the C shaped vise grips, for the fronts. you might need to spin the rears inward and you can use needle nose pliers for that 8/24/2005 9:56:45 PM |

Fuck a C-clamp. I have one, and I also have a tool made especially for the job.
I may be able to do it this weekend, but not before, unless Friday night sounds good. 8/25/2005 1:51:39 PM |

why buy the correct tool? take a peice of flat bar, drill and tap it and run a 3/4" bolt in there, and you have one for free. the only disadvantage to a c-clamp is that it is big and awkward, but i still use one everyday at work, what the hell is the big deal? 8/25/2005 3:37:56 PM |
tchenku midshipman 18586 Posts user info edit post |
not as good as an NGR clamp
my bad ive been mistaking "c clamp" for "c clip" all this time.
but still, a c clamp itself wont work on my car's front brakes because you have to rotate the piston back in. thats why I use a locking vice
[Edited on August 25, 2005 at 3:45 PM. Reason : may be the same for eclipse] 8/25/2005 3:44:42 PM |

I know it only takes about 15 minutes, but I value my time more than having to hunt that shit down and do that work making the damn thing. I just stepped around the counter, pulled it off one of our racks, and paid employee price for it. And I have used it enough to pay for itself tenfold. Sometimes using a c-clamp is a lot more awkward.8/25/2005 4:37:17 PM |

lol, I did that shit once. pads wore out at Roebling Road and I didn't have my C Clamp with me. So I went to Advanced bought one, returned to the track, and replaced the pads. Then after the track event was over I returned the clamp to Advanced...
