Hey, I just put together a PC with a MSI K8N Neo4 mobo.
The problem is that the motherboard's ethernet, sound, and usb support isn't working. If I boot the pc with a usb device attached the boot sequence fails. I can unplug my mouse and keyboard, boot it, then plug it in and it works just fine. Ethernet and sound don't work at all.
In the device manager it has these motherboard components listed with the little yellow "this thing isn't working" icons.

yeah install the drivers for them off the cd that came with it. Using the utility you need to do sound and nForce drivers. 8/28/2005 11:26:46 AM |

Thanks. Getting the drivers sort of fixed it. The sound, ethernet, and usbs now work.
But I still can't restart the PC with any usb devices plugged in. If I unplug them, restart, then plug them back in, it's fine.
This doesn't seem like a problem with the actual mobo anymore. What could be causing this? 8/29/2005 4:10:23 PM |

I figured I wouldn't need drivers for anything on the motherboard. I've never installed one before, and the disk that came with it said nothing about any drivers; just norton and an overclocking program.
Anyone have any clue what this is? 8/29/2005 5:19:54 PM |

maybe you wired up the USB pins to the motherboard incorrectly 8/29/2005 5:40:40 PM |

your processor bearings are losing compression. You'll have to reroute the FSB power to the HSF and then adjust the bios settings for heat loss. 8/29/2005 6:22:45 PM |

^^ I'm using the built-in usb's right now. Anyways, the usb sockets on this board are the foolproof single-socket type.
^ That makes no sense. 8/29/2005 6:27:18 PM |

oh right.
Yeah.
I'm planning on using elmers between the heatsink and cpu to deal with heat loss, but I'll try your idea next.
Come on folks, I know shit about computers and I managed to build a system from scratch with only this one problem. Bite me. 8/29/2005 6:48:08 PM |

No, I replaced it with a Logitech MX310, actually.
The unsupported one was a pretty fancy (but old) IBM model. 8/30/2005 6:14:19 AM |
