I figured we needed another hurricane related thread but seriously...

Who here works for a company that will match their charitable contributions? Mine will, and offered $2 for every $1 contributed by employees in a three-week span after the tsunami last year.

my company only matches 33% on our 401K plan.

But my yield since January has been 25%. We have a pretty strong stock.

Raytheon sent out an email about their millions of contributions, but said nothing about matching our personal contributions. BUT we can make payroll-deducted contributions.

^convenient.

I love that RHD matches $1 for $1. I think they cap it at $1-2k for regular charities and $5k for colleges & universities.

The $2 for $1 was a special thing for the tsunami, but I wonder if they might do it again for Katrina.

Quote :
"President Bush has promised a rapid federal response and help for victims is underway. We want you to know that R.H. Donnelley is also responding, and so can you. We will match $2 for every $1 an employee contributes to the American Red Cross – Hurricane Relief Fund between September 1st and 30th, 2005. Your minimum gift of $25.00 and a maximum gift of $1,000 will be eligible for this special match outside of any other gifts you have already made this year.

If you have the opportunity to volunteer your time to the disaster recovery, there are several ways RHD will reach out to support your efforts.

First, R. H. Donnelley may provide financial support to organizations where our employees volunteer significant amounts of their personal time. This program is known as RHD Community Action Recognition Efforts and Support, or RHD CARES. Full-time employees may apply for one award annually to go to a charitable organization on behalf of his or her volunteer service. The award amount, to be determined by R. H. Donnelley, may be up to $500.

Finally, full time employees with a minimum of six months of employment with R. H. Donnelley may be eligible to volunteer for one day of paid time off per calendar year for service to a federally qualified tax-exempt 501(C)(3) organization, subject to the terms and conditions of the RHD Day of Giving Application."

Tell your companies to get with it!!

Northrop Grumman has a number of shipyards in the gulf region (namely Pascagoula and Avondale) that are big customers of ours. I'm sure they'll be spending $10's of millions to get those yards operational again.

In the mean time I'm trying to organize a drive at my work for food, clothes, and supplies to contribute to Uday and Greg's drive.

my employer doesn't even match anything for a 401 K, I can't expect them to match a dollar for hurricane relief. They did set up a fund to donate through the American Red Cross, so I gave them 10 bucks.

And the professional athletes are calling for each of them to give a whopping $1000 to the relief fund.

What a joke.

1:1 for any of 7 recommended charities up to $100,000 total (we have ~2,000 employees)

charitable contributions is different than 401k people

actually it does, right on the intranet page about the relief:
Quote :
"All donations made to the American Red Cross via payroll deduction between Aug.30 and Nov. 30, 2005, will be matched by Raytheon Company."
