my roomate somehow got his computer w/ xp pro to automatically log off users when they try to log on so the computer is basically stuck on the welcome screen. tried running it in safe mode and restoring it but that got us nowhere. then, when we tried to repair windows, it got down to about 13 minutes remaining and then came up w/ an error message saying, The procedure entry point in GetIUMS could not be located in the dynamic link library MSDART.DLL. It would not continue the installation or exit out of the error message so we just had too abort it.

he just got back from iraq and doesn't want to lose all the pics and videos that he took while he was over there. any ideas or suggestions on what to do?

If worse comes to worse and no-one else has a better solution you could use a live linux distribution (http://www.knoppix.org/) to burn the files off onto cd's. Then just do a fresh install of windows.

or get another hard drive
load xp or whatever and set the original drive as a slave to it
then take off whatever you want from the old drive

slave his drive in your machine.
copy files.
then fuck with it... or just reformat.
