Anybody in Bhattari's Soc 261 class out there?? anyone?? I really am lost in that class, am I the only one? I know not everyone understands what he says...I really need to know if we're gonna have the test on Thursday or not...since we didn't have class today. And if anyone can tell me what the paper is on thats due on Sep 22. Thanks!

I am in this class too. I don't really understand much that he says but I know that the paper is on 10 technology items that have changed from when you were a kid to now. So for example talk about the phone when you were little and how it is now. He wants you to include feelings and emotions so make sure you talk about that. As for the test on Thursday I am not sure. He originally was going to have the review and test in one day so I would guess the test will still be Thursday, but hopefully since he cancelled class the review will be Thursday and test will be next Tuesday.

that class should be an easy A or B, just make sure you do the readings and try not to fall asleep in class

the tests are all simple multiple choice tests and are taken stright out of the readings, maybe one or 2 things from class and/or movies

and the paper at the end is kind of overkill, but i dont think he actually reads them anyway

in the past he said the paper can be on anything, like people did things like the effect of alternative fuels technology on present day soceity, or the use of the internet on communication, or things with cloning

He really doesnt care what you write the paper on, i think he just wants to be intertained by your presentation at the end of the year

oh yeah and when he makes everyone sign up for their presentations, sign up for the 1st day, because he will probably have 3 or 4 days of presentations, so you do yours the first day, then you dont have to go to class for a couple of days

he picks the most inane factoids out of the damn book for the test... He'll mention them in class in passing and then test you on them. I'm talking OBSCURE facts, and he LOVES to make lists, you will have for example
name 5 domestic car companies

a) ford, honda, gm, lexas volvo
b) ford, gm, chevy, mercedes volvo
c) gm, ford, chevy, chrysler, dodge
d) gm, ford, chevy, volvo, dodge
e) ford, gm, volvo mercedes, lexas

except the list is of things you REALLY have no clue on and all of them seem like feasible answers. GOD I HATED THAT CLASS so pointless, so worthless, and he doesn't hand out course evaluations at the end of the semester. Therefore I feel fully justified ranting on the internet about how ineffective of a professor he is.

for those who did go to the film show at the Solar center the other day....was it helpful? Did he take attendance there or was it like the one at the Media center in the library where we didnt really have to go to?

I didn't go to the first film. I didn't go to the solar house. And I don't think I'm going to go to this next film in about 15 minutes. Maybe if he told us more about what the films were on or more about the solar house, I would have gone.

I guess I'll spend this time working on the response paper.

I forgot the format of the paper that's due on Tuesday...is it supposed to be in an essay format while mentionin all 10 things that we've used from way back that are diff. today...or are we just supposed to do 10 bullet paragraphs explaining each thing?

You need to take better notes:

Compare & contrast 10 items of technology that you used when you were a child and are still using now. Maybe an "A" paper might be as long as 10 pages containing your feelings and emotions.

essay: 3-4 pages min, stapled, name & class in upper right margin, 1 inch margins, double spaced, 10-12 point font, use superscript in essay for sources that are listed on the sources page (if any)

I had this class a/b a year and a half ago. Wow, hard to describe how worthless that class and its instructor are. Still though, it should be an easy A.

I'm so glad that I looked on here. I went out of town two weeks ago and missed both classes, and I missed class last Thursday because I was sick.
