background: no viruses, no SP2, Windows XP home edition.

problem: i keep getting windows automatic updates but everytime i go to download them they will download but never ever install. Is this a common problem or is something the matter?

if the updates you are trying to install are "critical" then it doesn't matter if you have a legit windows xp or not. but if your windows xp is not legit and you are trying to install updates that are not critical, you will not be able to because of the new Windows Genuine Advantage program that Microsoft is rolling out:

You mean,

Capitalists who are protecting their property from being illegally stolen?

I thought greedy bastards meant people who don't know who their daddy is and who want more than they need and/or deserve.

I had the same thing happen to me a few weeks ago. I am at work right now, but if you are still having trouble when I get home today I will see if I can find the link that helped me fix it.

why don't you just go to the windowsupdate.com website and manually install the updates you need?
