People have been suggesting buying the $300 dell rather than building a computer from parts. What $300 dell are they talking about? Any help would be appriciated.

If you want a computer with any power (i.e. you want to play games), build it yourself. Otherwise, you can't beat a cheap machine.

it used to be the poweredge 400sc.

p4c 2.8ghz
512mb of ram
80gb hdd
agp slot
sata
onboard sound and network

all for like 300-350.

but they retired it a while back. I haven't seen anything close to that in terms of a platform to start building a system off of. Hell, the newer models that replaced the 400sc dont even come with floppy drives.

because they shouldn't come with floppy drives, that should be an addition. they aren't needed anymore like they used to be, hence why dvd-rom's come standard.
