I'm looking to buy a dvd player/recorder. Should I get a "+ format" or a "- format" ? I'm not really sure what the difference is, I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

I should add that the main reason I'm getting this is to copy vhs tapes onto dvd.

Make sure you buy a +/- burner. That way you can use any format disk you want to. I don't think it costs any more than the burners that are limited to either + or -.

Most DVD players support only the "-" format.

most players now support both. at one point - was dominant, and of the players that will only play one format most will only play -. most players sold now though play both.

^ basically what I said, except with proof to back it up, and some obvious beef against the non-beefeater

My 3+ year old DVD player handles + and - disks. If it is a problem you could always go out to BB and drop a $20 on a new DVD player.
