Note, I did a search and couldn't find any specific threads for this guy though I know we have talked about him on here.

I think this kid may be the next one in the pipe to do nice things for us. Doesn't have blazing speed but he has ok size now (on that note, I just looked, there is no way Jay is 220).

His school Lexington Catholic played the defending 4a state champ on Aug 27 and lost 37-34 after falling down 24-7 in the first.

Stats for that game

Yeah he was recruited hard by Kentucky and Louisville before he committed to NC State. Unlike Stone and Greco, this kid's hype seems to be based on his performance on the field rather than how fast he can run and how far he can throw.

In about 3 years we should get to see what he can do, so don't hold your breath waiting for the next PR.

I'm glad he chose here. Kentucky sucks and he would have to wait 3 years to even COMPETE for a starting job at UofL with Brohm there..

If he comes in showing talent in practice, I wouldn't be surprised to see him starting immediately...

There will never be another PR. But this kid sounds promising. If he can pick up the offense quickly and read defenses effectively, he'll get playing time sooner than later.

if he can't get PT here, what makes him think he can go somewhere else and get PT if it's not somewhere like ECU? good luck to him if he does decide elsewhere, but i'm all for justin burke coming in here and taking over the reigns as a freshman, IF he proves himself in practice first. anyone know if burke is thinking about enrolling early or coming in the summer to get a head start?

i can see it now, Stone transfers to Penn State...

Marcus Stone should transfer if he can't win the starting job next year. He has no excuse to be the starter as a RS JR.

Lets be careful here folks, no need to start the Justin Burke overhyping just yet. Some very great things were said about both Davis and Stone. The point of this thread is to kinda track his Sr. year progress and I fell pretty good that it will show good numbers, sometimes worth talking about.

Who knows about Greco other than the team, coaching staff, and managers to start with? I hope Greco gets his fair shot next year, I just see Trestman going with a more drop-back guy instead of someone with happy feet (Stone, Greco?).

because you've seen him play how many times??? There is no point in speculating how good someone will be in college...just know we keep getting better and better in the talent department, something is bound to happen for us.

Isnt Greco redshirting this year? How good would it be to have two freshman QBs next year. One who is a pocket passer (Burke) and one who is a scrambler (Greco). Kinda like Tennessee last year before both got hurt.

that would be nice if they both got the system...but if its like davis/stone last year...not so much.

If by hype, you meant a few of the same idiots that post around here, then you are correct.

Greco came in pretty quietly in my opinion, a lot less fanfare than Stone had for sure.

i hate god damn scramblers, they arent necessary in college

Burke comming in and starting immediately can do nothing but help the team in the long run. P-riv wasnt that great his freshman year, but he got so much better becaues of the playing experience. If he starts, he knows he can have control over the offense and be a leader half way through the year. Thats what we need, thats why Davis is gonna have a good year this year.

Fuck some quarterback controversy and stick in the n00b next year

P-Riv was awesome his freshman year. He had one of the best years ever by a true freshman QB in the ACC, and he led us to like 6 come-from-behind victories. I would argue that his freshman year was better than his sophomore year and on par with his junior year.

i saw somewhere that private school football in kentucky is much more competitive than it is here in nc. you tend to think that the public schools are much more talented than the private's in NC, but apparently it's opposite in kentucky... with private ball being more talented than the public schools. who knows.

^^I dont really know specifics, I was a soph in high school then. All im saying is that the sooner the n00bs start the better. I think they lose a little not being in competition after high school and it takes some time to get it back. If they are all mediocre, then I want the younger one with the most potential to play.

I just saw on packpride that Justin Burke has gone from a 4 star to a 3 star QB.

This is the same thing that happened to Greco .

Stars, schmars. Rivers was a 2 or 3 star prospect. He turned out pretty good. It's about talent and football IQ. This guy seems to have both. He'll be fine.

rivers was a 2star TE/QB that Auburn wanted as a TE.

state gets no love when it comes to recruits "stars"... large part due to the media who ranks these guys are from chapel hill's journalism school.

Baker didnt commit untill signing day, so i dont see the significance of that. If anything that will keep other schools from talking to Burke as much, so maybe he wont defect, like all of those players we steal from UNC at the last minute.

it is not due to chapel hills ranking of the players

i am not sure there are any chapel hill journalism folks on the Scout.com network, but this is getting frustrating for state fans....i went to Miami for grad school, and have never once seen a player on their boards drop stars after a committment

we, on the other hand, have had a number of recruits slide after committment, no calling out any conspiracy just stating facts

fact is, we still have the same kid coming in, stars or not....just feel bad for the kid, he threw 6 tds last friday and is 14/1 TD/INT ratio and he dropped 10 spots in the national QB rankings and dropped a star

If it helps ease any of the tension, Burke is 3* on the Rivals boards, and 17th QB in the country so maybe scout just got lazy and copied the rivals rankings

On the Scout.com network, Baker started as a 5* and remained 5*.
On the Rivals network, Baker started as a 4*, bumped up to 5* for half (or more) of the recruiting season, and then dropped back to 4* near the end.

Burke is actually just the 17th ranked Pro-Style QB in the country.
Players ranked as Dual-Threat QBs, such as Tim Tebow or Jevan Snead, aren't even counted in that #17 ranking.
If Rivals ranked all QBs together like Scout does, Burke would be ranked closer to 30th.

Not that dropping ranking makes him any worse (I'll trust Amato and Trestman), but recruiting rankings do matter for the perception of the school. How many times have we heard about Tennessee's #1 recruiting class last year? And how does that affect other recruits who want to "go where the talent is?"

This ranking drop is certainly not due to his stats so far this season, is it?
So far his senior year:
3 Games
47-87 -- 54%
785 yards -- 262 yd/game average -- IIRC, the first game of the season was a major blowout and he didn't get many yards in his limited action.
14 TDs -- 4.6 TD/game average
1 INT
Can't track down rushing statistics.
