I'm at work trying to remote desktop into my home computer. I can use remote desktop perfectly well and good from places other than at work. When I'm here, I can get to the login page, login and see the desktop, but I can't click on anything or move windows around or get into the start menu. A co-worker can use his remote desktop perfectly fine from here. Any ideas what could be causing my remote desktop to not work from here, but work from other places?

Did your coworker who can get to it do so from a different computer?

hmm.

Does it work from another computer in the same office?

what os is the remote system you have at home and what os is the remote system your co-worker could get to? Also what service packs are installed on each system?

When you say you cant click on things: Does the mouse cursor move? Also does the keyboard work?

It does not work on any computer here at work. We are running everything with Win XP Pro on Service Pack 2. I know I'm running Win XP Pro at home, but I'm unsure of the Service pack that is installed. I'm pretty sure I'm running Service Pack 2, but I can check when I get home.

When I say I can't click on things, I can see my cursor running around the screen, but I can't click on an icon and highlight it or click on a program in the task bar and make it active. It's like everything on my desktop is inactive. I can't even click on an open window and make the window the active window.

Could different service packs cause issues?

There could be some whacky quality of service policy that your work's IT dept has setup to limit the amt of RDP traffic you guys are pumping through it. Perhaps try changing the port # that your RDP sess is running on?

whats your connection speed on both sides?....if you can't maintain a connection thats how remote desktop acts....the mouse works fine and looks like you are connected but you're really not or not well enough to interact with it

^^ - i've used a different port and that doesn't work.

^ - I have Road Runner at home and so does my co-worker who gets his P2 450 to Remotely connect. I have a P3 550 and my work connection is a partial T1 (768K up and down). The connection is set up for optimal uptime.

are you using IE to connect to the RD session or using the RDC client?

Sounds like the client is hanging on connect. Are you using any virtual desktop software on your home machine? Multiple monitors? Some OS skinning software? I've seen the RDP client freakout multiple desktops.
