So I was at drill this weekend listening to some Apache pilots who flew Blackhawks as part of the Katrina relief effort. After serving in combat a year in Afghanistan, they have been sent to Louisiana to give aid to hostile crowds WITHOUT means of defending themselves.

Many of them who were in Somalia in '93 felt like they were right back over Mogadishu.

Conclusion: The people of New Orleans have turned feral.

Between anarchy in New Orleans and the scarcity of gasoline, I must say that reality is looking more and more like The Road Warrior everyday. I couldn't be more excited.

Shrapnel: it's not uncommon for former active service members, on mustering out and getting normal jobs, to stay in the Guard.

yea, with a bunch of other guys with 15-18 years in and trying to pull their last few years to get retirement.

There are a bunch of Special Forces, Ranger, Airborne, Pilots in the guard with loads of active duty experience...

Okay, now explain to me how you have guys both current AND qualified in both Blackhawks and Apaches.

And where in the ATO was the NCNG? (Although I have to admit with all the helicopters we saw out there, it might stand to figure)
