...after graduation? I am starting the process of sending out resumes since I'm finishing grad school soon...and I'm being optimistic about getting a job, but I am curious to see how long it took others.

actually I was hired by the only organization I applied with...I took a chance, I know, but it worked in my favor.

the hiring process took 6 months, and I probably should mention that I DID complete an internship about a year prior to applying (and graduating)

I've been happily employed in my dream job for the last year and some change

I would have had a job before I graduated college, but Wake County screwed up my paperwork(said I hadn't turned in a paper even though I did). So I went home for part of the summer, and got a job in Wilson County.

The next summer though I made sure I taught in Wake County and got a job really quickly.

Two years later I am here in Guilford County. I actually had calls from 21 schools from Orange, Durham, Chapel Hill-Carrboro, Guilford, and Alamance wanting me.

I guess it all depends on what you are graduating in. Education is easy to find a job.

had my interview in july '04 - offer in august '04 - accepted in September '04 - graduated in dec '04

i worked for them full/part time jan '03 -> aug '04 but my job was a completely different department/division and the interview didn't come from the group i was working with - if you aren't networking in college and expect to be handed a job don't be suprised

Do you mean a "real" job, or a job that was just getting you by?
I graduated in '02. I had jobs just getting me by right after I graduated. My "real" job technically didn't start until August of this year. But I had been training since May '03 until June '05.

i have my first interview for a real job this thursday. i'm nervous as crap. it's w/ petsmart for their management trainee program.

other than that i don't know where to go. i want to move back home b/c i like being around my family and my bf is just moved there and started work sept 1st. rocky mount doesn't exactly have a large pet industry though.

if anybody knows of anywhere in rm that i should even halfway consider applying to, let me know please. i'll have a BS in animal science this december and i want to work in the pet supply/training/boarding business.

i'm worried

I graduated in May 2003 and started work at the end of June 2003... got lucky and got a job after only sending out four resumes. Now, I've graduated with my masters' back in June, and haven't found a job yet after moving to Houston at the beginning of October. The job market here is really competitive because of the influx of people into the area from Katrina and Rita.

Ok, I'm replying to my own thread...
it's two weeks before graduation, and I've been contacted by a place that I figured was a long shot, b/c it's probably the best job I applied to....applied Friday, heard from them today (Monday)...
spent about 30 minutes on the phone with the guy...
wish me luck!

using connections, it took a week to get flown up for an on-site interview, which was the easiest, but longest interview process ever. There was no phone interview before the onsite, either!

searched for about a month before talking to connection

Connections are the key.

Ok...I just got a job.
So...a little over a week and a half before graduation, I got an offer...to answer my own question.

And I start training the day after graduation.
