Yes, I know 10 minutes of google searching could figure this out but...

is PCI-e that much better than AGP 8x? Is it worth the cost of getting a new motherboard and video card simply to go to PCI-e, or should I wait around for the "next big thing?"

Right now I am running AGP 8x with a Radeon X800 Pro 256mb.

if you are ready to upgrade to a better proc/mobo/vid card then yes....if not then stick with your X800 (which isn't really outdated yet)

Well I guess what I am asking is will I see that much of a performance boost? Does a comparable PCI express card to an X800 Pro AGP card simply perform better because it is on a PCI express interface or what?

if you get a x800pro PCI-e you won't 'notice' much. But by going to PCI-e it opens the door for a lot better options like SLI, 7800GTX...dual vid cards (not-SLI) without one of them being standard PCI...

eh, if you upgrade to pci express, you're replacing the motherboard a the very least and quite likely the processor and memory... which is a decent chunk of change. if you're going to put that many new parts in the computer, I'd wait a while untill the x800 agp 8x is actually more outdated and get a dual core system with the option of running SLI (though for most people that's not worth the cost.)

I mean, right now if you've got an athlon 3200+ or better and the x800... you really won't notice HUGE jump in performance unless you buy the very newest components anyways.

what processor do you have in your system now?

definitley not worth it. if you have an x800 series do not bother upgrading for a while. You will see no increase in performance when switching to PCI-e given the same hardware. Don't pay $500 more for the same performance. If you already have the hardware then stick with it.
